SPECIAL TO WORLD TRIBUNE.COM Monday, February 13, 2006 WASHINGTON — The Bush administration has approved a deal in which a United Arab Emirates company would operate six major ports in the United States.
The first and final three paragraphs of this Fox/AP article given below clearly indicate that the Bush Administration should not allow an Arab nation with terrorist ties to own any of our US ports, particularly those in the vulnerable NYC/DC corridor and the Port of New Orleans near our Gulf oil rigs. This sale, expected today, blindsides those like our Minutemen who protect our southern borders. And why did we learn of it only this weekend while the press and talk shows concentrate on the Vice President's misfire?! This sale is no joke and, without doubt, represents a serious threat to our national security. From New Jersey, and knowing longshoremen, they see very little increased security at their port. The last figure heard was that customs are only able to physically check 2-3% of the containers. At one port alone, they do about 20-25 thousand moves daily. In other words, our ports are the weakest link in our national security system and now we're handing over that prize to our enemy.
This sale is crazy and the Bush bureaucrats who approved it should be fired. With actions like these, I can easily understand why Reagan Dems have little hope in the GOP!

"WASHINGTON — A company in the United Arab Emirates is poised to take over significant operations at six American ports as part of a corporate sale, leaving a country with ties to the Sept. 11 hijackers with influence over a maritime industry considered vulnerable to terrorism." ........
......"Since the Sept. 11 attacks, the FBI has said the money for the strikes was transferred to the hijackers primarily through the UAE's banking system, and much of the operational planning for the attacks took place inside the UAE.
Many of the hijackers traveled to the U.S. through the UAE. Also, the hijacker who steered United Airlines flight into the World Trade Center's south tower, Marwan al-Shehhi, was born in the UAE.
After the attacks, U.S. Treasury Department officials complained about a lack of cooperation by the UAE and other Arab countries trying to track Usama bin Laden's bank accounts."
