WASHINGTON - President Bush knew Saturday evening that Vice President Dick Cheney had accidentally shot a hunting companion, but the information wasnt made public until the next day by a private citizen, the White House acknowledged Monday.
In a contentious media briefing, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Cheneys staff was focused on making sure that the shooting victim, Texas attorney Harry Whittington, was receiving adequate medical care after the shooting on the private Armstrong Ranch in south Texas. Whittington and Cheney were hunting quail together.

Biggest concern from the press seems to be that they were scooped by a local newspaper. White House / the Right's response should be that the Left and the Media are more upset about the timing of statement and not the well being of the victim.

I'm sure the VP is beside himself with regret and thanking god his friend is alright.
But of course the leftist press will overplay their hand, as usual.
Oh, well such is the state of our entertainment media, how could anyone run for office in this environment, unless of course they are Dems.

It's rumored the MSM again has a knot in their knickers for not being informed until almost noon today the President Bush passed gas shortly after dinner last night.

Turn on Hannity today; his coverage of the press conference at the WH is hysterical.

The White House should have called Helen Thomas at 3 am to give her the inside scoop, just for old times sake. Beauty sleep interruptus.

the Media are more upset about the timing of statement and not the well being of the victim. They're upset he wasn't more seriously injured or killed.

That is what is bugging them most of all, and causing their monumental hissy-fit.
Do they know or care how stupid and juvenile they appear to be?

The Press sees everything through a politcal prism. This just isn't how people view things. My first thought was to victim, his safety, and how this was alomst a tragic accident.
Never in million years would I immediatly look to the political consequences and how the story was disseminated. The MSM will overplay their hand, as they always do. Media in bubble...

If that is true - and I hope it is - then he needs to tell his underlings to stop blaming the guy he shot for the result of his own violation of basic firearms safety.

private Armstrong Ranch in south Texas What the hell is a private ranch? As opposed to what, a public ranch??
Another MSM attempt to show a Republican as an elitist. I'm a nobody and was on the ranch as far back as 1968.
