White House under fire over Cheney shooting (A Citizen informs the Press, how dare they!!!)

WASHINGTON - President Bush knew Saturday evening that Vice President Dick Cheney had accidentally shot a hunting companion, but the information wasn’t made public until the next day by a private citizen, the White House acknowledged Monday.

In a contentious media briefing, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Cheney’s staff was focused on making sure that the shooting victim, Texas attorney Harry Whittington, was receiving adequate medical care after the shooting on the private Armstrong Ranch in south Texas. Whittington and Cheney were hunting quail together.

That is definitely the issue. They might have to actually work for a living.

The WH should make them scramble for all their stories - what difference would it make to the WH, the press makes up their stories anyway. At least if they had to actually "gather" the news, they might have less time to spin and twist it to fit the dnc talking points of the day.

If the sheriff was notified at 5 something on Saturday afternoon, I would think the local south Texas "journalists" who cover the cop shop should have had it then - unless they expect to be held by the hand too.

They're upset he wasn't more seriously injured or killed.

One of the women reporters at the White House today asked Scott McClellan "Would this be a bigger story if he had been killed?"

This accident was a private matter between the Veep and his friend.

Sex. guns and rock 'n roll...they're all private matters. Just ask Slick Willie.

Still with the lack of courtesy, Cobra? I'd expect you to have better manners, unless you are a transplanted yankee.

If you think that stating that a shooter needs to know what is in their field of fire is ZOT worthy, then you've been drinking WAAAAY too much kool-aid.

You see, conservatives believe in responsible gun ownership. If that is a problem for bots like you, so be it.

I think the liberal media is all over this because it has to do with GUNS and by extension the NRA. Oh the horror, GUNS and the NRA!!! (massive sarcasm alert)

that they couldn't swarm all over private property

"Why can't we see the place where it happened?"

"Where was Cheney standing?"

"What did you see?"

You have got to be kidding me. I missed that one somehow. OTOH, I have no idea why I'm somewhat surprised at that question.

They called an ambulance and took the guy to a hospital full of buckshot. Brilliant coverup!

Ever owned or shot a shotgun? Ever reload 12,000 shells? If he were full of buckshot he would probably be d-e-a-d.

There is a difference between buckshot and birdshot.

I have believed for months that we need a new press secretary. Ari was so good! Don't know why Bush keeps Scott in that position.

.reminds one of when Bill Clinton injured himself at Greg Norman's FL. place...MSM never questioned it one bit.

Exactly. And the press wasn't with him when it happened; he snuck away and they didn't find out until the next day when he came to Air Force One to fly home.

Why don't you like Scott?

Because he carries out the Bush vision of staying above the fray and working with instead of against political advesaries?

I'm with you, I'd rather see the press secretary put idiots in their place, but that is not the Bush approach.

I am still holding out hope that Fox will begin a nightly news show with Brit as anchor. This would be a very good time.

So, you are saying that the young never make those kinds of mistakes? Cheney is not elderly by any means. My 101 year old mom is elderly!
