In a move that ought to terminate any long-shot chance he had for a political comeback, former Vice President Al Gore criticized his own country yesterday before an audience in Jiddah, Saudi Arabia.
It remains to be seen whether members of Gores party will stand up and rebuke him for this act.
Ignoring one of the primary lessons of the 9/11 terrorist attacks -- which was that Saudi-born terrorists exploited a lax U.S. visa system -- Gore, in Jiddah, shot venom at the manner in which the U.S. government tightened visa-and-immigration enforcement after the terrorist attacks.
As reported by the Associated Press, Gore told a principally Arab audience at the Jiddah Economic Forum that, after 9/11, Arabs in the United States had been indiscriminately rounded up, often on minor charges of overstaying a visa or not having a green card in proper order, and held in conditions that were just unforgivable.
Unfortunately, there have been terrible abuses and its wrong, Gore said. I do want you to know that it does not represent the desires or wishes or feelings of the majority of citizens of my country.
Gore directly criticized what he apparently considers over-strict U.S. government scrutiny of visa applications from the Arab world. The thoughtless way in which visas are now handled, that is a mistake, said Gore. The worst thing we can possible do is cut off the channels of friendship and mutual understanding between Saudi Arabia and the United States.
Gore must not have read the conclusions of the 9/11 Commission. It concluded that 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudi nationals. These hijackers, the commission concluded, took advantage of weak U.S. immigration and visa enforcement.
In fact, the hijackers submitted a total of 24 U.S. visa applications, of which 20 were retained in U.S. State Department files. All 20 of these applications, a 9/11 Commission staff report concluded, were incomplete in some way, with a data field left blank or not answered fully.
Three of the hijackers submitted applications that contained false statements that could have been proven to be false at the time they applied, said the staff report, entitled Entry of the 9/11 Hijackers into the United States.
During their stays in the United States at least six of the 9/11 hijackers violated immigration laws, said the report.
According to the report, the 9/11 hijackers who were given visas to enter and stay in the U.S.: Included among them known al Qaeda operatives who could have been watchlisted; Presented passports manipulated in a fraudulent manner; Presented passports with suspicious indictors of extremism; Made detectable false statements on their visa applications; Were pulled out of the travel stream and given greater scrutiny by border officials; Made false statements to border officials to gain entry into the United States; and Violated immigration laws while inside the United States.
Given these facts established by the 9/11 Commission, Gores statements in Jiddah criticizing stricter U.S. visa-law enforcement against Arab nationals after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks are not only foolish and un-American they are uninformed.
We shall see if any Democratic leader calls him on it.
Gore still can't get over the fact he lost the 2000 election, he does not speak for our country, Fortunately, everyone knows this but him.
Remeber the tenent that had no working toilet or water--and the landlord was Al Gore ? This lobotomized gnat has something to say on international matters and homeland security ?
He's making his opponents' commercials for them. If he runs for President, at least one of the DemocRAT challengers will use clips from this speech against him. If he were to actually get the DemocRAT nomination Republicans would use them too. This would really be ironic. After all it was Algore himself who first used Willie Horton as an issue against Michael Dukakis in 1988.
bump
I am *SURE* that somewhere there is a quote of him blasting either:
A) The close ties that the US has with "The home of 15 of 19 9/11 terrorists"
or
B) blasting Bush for not tightening the visa loopholes sooner.
Does anyone have any links? They may prove amusing.
Gore is delusional if he thinks he can speak for the majority of American citizens.
There is a link...that rhymes with Gore....It
is prominent in most of the Blue states that are
still wanting a recount????? Jake
Semper Fi
It's all about the money. Gore is selling himself for campaign contributions in '08... and I suspect support for his failing cable channel will be discussed on this trip as well. Whore....
and when All-Bore sets foot back in the US he should be arrested for giving aid and comfort to the enemy and frog marched to jail.
"and when All-Bore sets foot back in the US he should be arrested for giving aid and comfort to the enemy and frog marched to jail."
Absolutely! I am loathe to understand why these types of incidents that seem to be becoming the 'norm' are NOT being prosecuted during a time of war. If the roles were reversed, the dims who are screaming impeachment would instead be prosecuting traitors.
Gore needs to go quail hunting...
When the Arab community was asked to help by coming forward and providing information they did not cooperate, those on expired visas went into hiding.
It's official -- Al Gore has lied about his country in order to enrage the Muslim world. There has been NO round up of Arabs or Muslims in the wake of 9-11...despite the FACT that there exists a huge, not-so-secret network of terrorists or terrorist-connected people and organizations IN THIS COUNTRY that reaches into EVERY Muslim community in this country and probably EVERY mosque in one way or another.
So why would Gore make something like this up?
Gore's creation of this fantasy land on foreign (enemy) soil -- the description of which can serve no other purpose than to inflame a culture that riots, burns and kills over cartoons -- borders on the criminal. This isn't simply "criticizing the administration," which should not be done under ANY circumstances in the country that MOST generously injects lifeblood into the filthy veins of international terrorism. This slug-slime trail of a man has invented a police state in this country that does not exist for his own twisted political agenda. This can only feed the mass propaganda myth-machine that rules the psyche of the Middle East Islamic terror empire. This is nearly as bad as when Egyptian newspapers make claims about Jews using the blood of "Palestian" children for sacred pudding. Vile falsehoods both. He should be held to account. This is far worse than mere stupidity (although that is certainly a factor).
No matter which way you slice it, Gore's comments in that forum were scandalous. Anyone who comes to his defense is immoral, hates his country and is quite possibly deranged
I wonder how many additional EPA warrants have been issued in re his lead mine polluting the Tennessee River? Maybe the lead is also contributing to global warming bunghole!
So according to Lefties, Bush is too nice to the Saudis and too mean to them at the same time? God, what idiots.
