Franken Says Cheney Shot Whittington Just to Watch Him Die

Remember back in October when Al Franken joked with David Letterman about Karl Rove and I. Lewis Libby being executed for treason? Well, Franken is at it again with a blog entry Sunday evening at the Huffington Post. This time, the target of his tasteless satire is Vice President Dick Cheney who accidentally shot his hunting partner on Saturday:
Over the weekend, Vice President Dick Cheney shot a man in Texas. Asked why he shot the man, the Vice President said, Just to watch him die."
Much like other members of the media, Franken saw a bizarre connection to a previously documented hunting trip that the vice president went on: You know who's doing a there but for the grace of God go I?; Scalia.
Then, Franken painted a sophomoric picture of what would happen if Bush and Cheney went hunting:
Now, I imagine that Cheney and the President have hunted together. What would have happened if Cheney had shot the President? I think if he shot Bush this way, Bush isn't 78 and he's in pretty good shape, and he's kinda macho. I think he would've gotten up and shot Cheney back. And I think they would've started blasting each other like in a Tarrantino [sic] movie.
Thats some funny stuff, Al. Dont quit your day job. Speaking of which, things must not be going well over at Hot Air America, as Franken has taken to spamming blogs to attract listeners:
Anyway, be sure to listen to the Al Franken Show tomorrow - noon to three EST. And Vice President Cheney will be our special guest. And guess what? He's bringing his shotgun!
Makes you wonder if theyre going to start paying kids to hang ads on doorknobs to get listeners much the way Dominos sells pizza. Of course, unlike Franken's comedic attempts, Dominos delivers.
Then why is he alive?
This was an accident BUT if they want to imply it was done on purpose, they have a right to say that Dick did not do it correctly.
The Clinton thugs were much more efficient as they left no witnesses to their many deaths ruled suicides.
Can't be. He wasn't in Reno.
Actually, hunting accidents are nothing to laugh about.
I just hope the guy's gonna be okay. This kind of thing happens every year in Appalachia. When it involves a rifle, someone usually dies.
I'm sure Dick's very upset about it.
Franken is a sick bastard.
I hear the train a comin'; it's rollin' 'round the bend,
And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when.
I'm stuck at Folsom Prison and time keeps draggin' on.
But that train keeps rollin' on down to San Antone.
When I was just a baby, my mama told me, "Son,
Always be a good boy; don't ever play with guns."
But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die.
When I hear that whistle blowin' I hang my head and cry.
I bet there's rich folk eatin' in a fancy dining car.
They're prob'ly drinkin' coffee and smokin' big cigars,
But I know I had it comin', I know I can't be free,
But those people keep a movin', and that's what tortures me.
Well, if they freed me from this prison, if that railroad train was mine,
I bet I'd move on over a little farther down the line,
Far from Folsom Prison, that's where I want to stay,
And I'd let that lonesome whistle blow my blues away.
Al's humor is appreciated by some: Inmates on death row.
Dear Al,
Let's go hunting sometime.
Sincerely,
Dick Cheney
AF is a blithering idiot, but I have to agree.
I watched 'Walk The Line' and I wanted to die!
True. Not much different from some of Ann's comments!
Doesnt make me want to post pics of him, though.
I care about this because...
I think subconsciously Franken is sabatoging any chance he would have at even RUNNING for office. He knows he can't win, and with talk like this, the wouldn't even get a nomination. Apparently, he has so real, deep-seeded anger issues and I'm sure he's been told not to run. Personally, I'd love to see him run ... what a hoot that would be!
A million comedians out of work and Franken tries to be one. What a lame joke.
I think that's probably true.
I received a single shot 20-gauge for my birthday many years ago. It was referred to as a "youth gun" in those days, maybe it still it. I wish I still had the damn thing.
Being sprayed with that caliber at 100 feet certainly isn't lethal, unless they're packing their own shells with a special load. Somehow I suspect that isn't the case.
Nevef made the connection. Not a Jonny Cash fan.
Maybe Franked succeeded in humor. But not with me.
If the lawyer was at death's door then I agree, this would be a sick joke. But he isn't.
Unlike most hunting accidents this IS a laughing matter. No bones were broken, no damage done. Cheney and his friend are fine. I am honestly amazed at the huffy tenor of the original article: Franken made an excellent joke and we should give him credit for it.
Yeah, for a lesbian, Jody has inspired lots of quixotic male behavior!
