Presumably the 10,000 would be Iranians. Better 10,000 Iranians, who threaten world peace, than millions who would die if Iran nukes Israel.

This is scare talk to discourage any action being taken against Iran. But when someone threatens to blow your brains out, you must take immediate defense measures, or suffer the consequences.

Could you imagine a professor of Peace Studies recommending war? He probably occupies the Neville Chamberlain chair of International Relationships.

The report concludes: "A military response to the current crisis is a particularly dangerous option and should not be considered further. Alternative approaches must be sought, however difficult these may be."

Sincerely,

Neville Chamberlain

I'm beginning to think that dropping the Bomb several places in the Mideast, starting with Terhan, is likely to be the only real solution to this whole problem of Islamofascism. As a group, the Mudslimes are a bunch of backward, death worshiping, subhumans whose greatest technological accomplishment of the last decade has been creating the murder/suicide bomb vest. They've also shown themselves to be absolutely brilliant at creating a reverse mental hospital in the Palestinian territories where they've manufactured a whole generation of potential murder/suicide bombers. All of this springs from their backward, murderous, so-called "religion" that's based on the actions and homicidal spewings of a murdering pederast, whom they joyously revere.

The only time we've been faced with a similar situation in our history was with Imperial Japan, where murderous fanaticism, as in the Mideast, was linked to a monstrous "religion." The sole mental health treatment that worked against Imperial Japan was the bomb. It looks more and more like the same thing's going to be required in the Mideast.

This same sentiment was expressed by liberals in the British media in 1938 & 1939 ... only then they were talking about Hitler. Interesting what there idea of alternative approaches might be ...

Hi spinestein-

"...Iran would probably withdraw from the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and speed up its secret nuclear weapons programme..."

That is the precise statement in the whole story that jumped out at me as well. I wanted to scan the initial thread responses to see the other FReepers who had noticed it. If they developed some double-top-secret program that CIA operatives and NSA personnel must uncover, it pretty much proves that they're not planning a nifty new nuclear powerplant to provide energy for their growing population.

The only thing they understand in Iran is superior firepower. They don't respect dialog, peaceful negotiation, or finance. If we "give" them anything, they perceive it as weakness. Since they insist on playing the game this way, they leave us no choice.

Hundreds of scientists and technicians would be targets in the opening salvos as the attacks

Not to mention one or two Nuclear weapon facilities.

"Well said, sad but true, but well said. America does have a moral obligation to overthrow those insane mullahs, because it was because of our very own grinning fool Carter that those mullahs took over in the first place. I would like to think that we are alrady working with exiled Iranian groups (including the Shah's family) on the formation of a post-mullah government in Iran."

Totally agree with you.

Besides, from what I hear, thru those who have recently left Iran, even the current young Iranian people are fed up with the Mullahs and are overwhelmingly pro-western & pro-democracy. Unfortunately, the mainstream western media largely ignores that in favor of showing a few hundred bussed in Basijis who are in fact Arabs not Iranians. Or when rent-a-crowd Mullah gang chants death to America! I seriously question whose side this western media is on? Perhaps it isn't sexy enough to report on resistance in Iran.

Attacking the nuke sites at best is, IMO, a short term solution. At a very least, it must be followed by a regime change for the long term benefit and stability of that region and the world.

You don't see any irony between decrying the death of Western Civilization and calling for the nuking of the oldest university in the English-speaking world?

Oxford counts among its alumni 12 kings, 47 Nobel laureates, 25 British Prime Ministers, eighteen cardinals, seven saints and a Pope. I'm trying hard (and failing) to think of another institution more central to the Western Civ you're ostensibly trying to protect.

Good post.

What does a professor of peace studies study?

Mostly, it would appear, ways to blame free, liberal societies for the behavior of repressive, aggressive and thuggish ones.

I am leaning on putting nuclear weapons in theater and sending through back channels that if a single missile is place on a launch pad carrying a nuclear weapon there will be swift nuclear retaliation. This retaliation would be massive and certain. I don't believe at this time we should get involved in another conventional conflict which would have many unforeseen consequences.

Some consequences that can be foreseen:

1. The bombing campaign would be long and sustained and there is no certainty we would get all the nuclear sites.

2. Oil prices would be effected, to what degree that can't be known right now.

3. A possible expansion of the low intensity conflict in Iraq, possible in the form of a civil conflict or a direct war with Iran.

4. Increase terrorism, which could be right here in America, and might damage the resolve to win the wider War on Terrorism.

We can't get distracted from our primary goals, which are to end terrorism and promote democracy in the Islamic world. Are action can't look like a CRUSADE against Islam. We need to mix bombs with diplomacy, strength with hope for the future. Stop the violence and we will do business with you, should be the message that comes loud and clear.

"kill up to 10,000+"? This is great analysis.

LOL. Don't spoil the professor's story by reading too closely...;)

Far better to go the extra mile to protect America and be wrong than to not go far enough and be wrong. 10,000 in Iran vs 10,000,000 in America?

I think we should be careful about labeling any fellow human as 'sub-human'. This is one of the terms the Japenese used to justify the Bataan Death March. We will need to kill huge numbers of em, nevertheless. They are going to force our hand, and it will not matter who is in office.
For the hand wringers out there worrying over what happens after we bomb them back to the stone age, Who Cares? Can the next despotic regime be any worse, any more of a threat?
