Wow, look at NYC. The lowest murder rate of all the cities listed. I guess Bloomberg is following in Rudy's steps in clamping down on the bad guys. I assume these numbers are accurate.

Hi neighbor (well almost, I'm SW).
But I don't think its the gentrification and certainly not anything that *&%^$ Daley has done.

Remember 'way back' when welfare to work reform kicked in. Even IL followed suit, but Wisconsin did not. In fact they INCREASED the benefits. I recall reading scores of articles in the Trib and Slum Times then about Chicago's 'po folk moving in droves to Wisconsin just for that reason. They were supposed to be bleeding heart, "aw geez these 'po folk are being uprooted and forced to move out of state because of the mean republicans". But the reality was, it was about 'gettin mo money'.

And with the tougher sentencing laws, many most of Daley's constituents are sitting in Statesville instead of roaming the streets raping, robbing and killing.

Plus, the Chicago PD and C_rook County States Attorney is fudging the numbers. Felonies are plead down to misdemeanors and things like Assault With A Deadly weapon changed to Battery. That ^&%*@$% DICK Devine simply will NOT prosecute most gun crimes as 'gun crimes' if the perp is of a certain protected minority, which is oh.. about 80% of Chicago now. What's worse is that he absolutely refuses to turn gun crimes over to the Feds where convictions are almost guaranteed and the sentence is 20 years with no parole. His office has the lowest rate of cooperation with the FEDS in the entire USA on that.

So IMHO Chi's violent crime stats are really increasing. And I doubt if there is ONE 'safe neighborhood' within the city limits where you could go anywhere after dark without fear of becoming a crime victim.

That is the best reason ever to carry a gun with you at all times once you leave your house.Whether or not the local city you reside in grants you "permission" to exercise your constitutional RIGHT to carrry a gun. All unarmed citizens are at the mercy of anyone with a gun knife or bat and if you are more concerned with obeying some local law thne you are with ensuring the safety of you or your family either you or your family members may be killed and it will be very small conselation to have "i obeyed all the unconstitutional laws of my city like a good little slave" etched into your tombstone.

hopefully with the two new justices on the supreme court we have a shot at gettingh the 34 and 68 gun control laws tossed out but i dont know enough about them yet to know how they will vote we will probably see in the next two or three months if they are literate enough to rule on the 2cd amendment the right way

Yes, but murders and crimes have dropped drastically from 1985 to the present. Therefore, the NY times statement, attempting to link gun laws with increases is 180 degrees from reality, if one was to correlate the two statistics.

One woman here killed a friend after they argued over a brown silk dress. A man killed a neighbor whose 10-year-old son had mistakenly used his dish soap. Two men argued over a cellphone, and pulling out their guns, the police say, killed a 13-year-old girl in the crossfire.
