Taranto: Nothing to Fear but These Idiots. Dems fault Bush for thwarting an attack on L.A.
OpinionJournal ^ | Feb. 10, 2006 | JAMES TARANTO

Posted on 02/10/2006 9:20:40 PM PST by FairOpinion

The Los Angeles Times reports on Democratic reaction to President Bush's speech yesterday, in which he described how the government foiled an al Qaeda plot to fly hijacked planes into L.A.'s Library Tower:

"The details did little to counter skepticism from Democrats and some law enforcement officials who have questioned whether the reported scheme had ever been put into operation before it was thwarted."

So we're supposed to wait until after terror plots have been put into operation before thwarting them?

"I can't think of a governmental reason to disclose these details at this time to the general public. Clearly, the goal was to create headlines," said Sherman, who monitors security matters as the ranking Democrat on the House subcommittee on international terrorism and nonproliferation."

But it is very helpful to disclose crucial details about the terrorist surveillance program?

Even if the Mayor KNEW it...I am sure he got his talking points and was told to make a stink...which he did.

So did the mayor of L.A. have anything negative to say about the would-be terrorists? (He's more p*ssed off over not getting a phone call than over the fact that someone wanted to destroy L.A. Idiot!)

Read between the lines, LibFree :-)

If Bush had called him, then the NSA would have had to tap his phone, right? And obviously, as a Dem, he wouldn't have wanted that. ;-)

Cheers!

Perhaps there's only so much mayoral attention available and L.A. was getting jealous of N.O. After all, negative attention is still attention.

Let's say about every Thursday afternoon after blowhards are on their 2nd adult beverage and whatever.

If you mean Kennedy, Bush would have to start talking the previous Thursday :-)

Hmmm, Thursday...Thirsty...any connection?

Cheers!

The true test will be if something ever goes down in LA, just what kind of leader Villaraigosa will be in a crisis.

Ya, you know what I mean. Get the Sunday BS shows to get interesting. Bush doesn't give a F but he could have fun if he did!

Based on his performance during his televised comments, it was pretty clear to me why the dimwit would be offended. Match a less than stellar intellect with being a member of the Democratic Party, and "Voila", you've an "instant idiot"!!

Villaraigosa LIED about not being informed.

"There is no dispute that City Hall and the Los Angeles Police Department were notified prior to the speech, but the mayor has said important details were withheld, without providing specifics."

Mayor, security official, disagree on handling of LA terror info

Now he wines that the WH should have called him directly, instead of being grateful of avoiding a terror attack on LA.

From the article there appears there has been a more recent attack thwarted on LA also:

"By contrast, he said, he was alerted at home last year when the federal government confirmed a credible terrorist threat to the city."

There is a little difference between an imminent attack, and revealing an old one. Such a jerk! And I am afraid soon he will be running for Gov of CA. He shows no appreciation whatsoever for all those who thwarted the attacks on LA. He is more interested in playing politics, than protecting the lives of the people in his city.

That pretty much sums up the "logic" of liberals...also is a good reason they can't be allowed to have any power...and as an aside, it might explain why so many have so much trouble tying shoes that they wear Birkenstocks.

Villaraigosa will complain and moan just like any other RAT when the next earthquake, firestorm or flood hits.

The next time a mayor or governor complains about the federal government during a disaster, they should be handcuffed and taken to a judge under arrest for malfeasance in office.

Maybe Bush should contact all possible future mayors of LA and let them know that there was a plot that was thwarted while one of the predecessors was in office.

LOL..

Based on what he said and did on TV (FOX), the man is a blithering idiot. He couldn't string two intelligible
English words together--and he wouldn't maintain eye contact with the camera.

Seriously, I couldn't understand half of what the man was was saying. The part I could understand didn't make any sense. And you know what they say about people who won't look you in the eye.

I saw that Mayor at a Dem convention or somesuch last year, shortly after he was elected..and he played the race card a couple of times in his speech..

I think that HE, like Osama Obama, has been "chosen" by the MSM, and therefore, by dems to be the new up and coming stars....so, even though they might be airheads, they will be touted as the future of the dem party...

HE is scary because I have heard that there are ties at least in his past with the movement to make the southwest part of the USA, Mexican property again..

LOL. I'm in Southern California. I have never liked Villaraigosa, and I'm hispanic. There's something about that guy that makes me think he's sleazy.

You have an uncanny knack for sifting the important "key fact" out of all this.

This mayor was just given "the Boccio del morte" by the President and it has'nt sunk in...YET.

He's political "dead meat" and does'nt realize it. A sort of Hispanic "wrong way Corrigan"...all dressed up with no place to go...

a "Mordito Bandito."

Sometimes I think we should have allowed Al Qaeda to attack Los Angeles. Then again, the Democrats would have blamed Bush for not pre-empting the terrorist attack. Describing them as idiots is only being too kind to them, since by their very attitude, they've put the President in a classic Catch-22 situation. Gotcha!

"It made him and LA look stupid and frankly, I don't blame him. The WH should have told him they planned on talking about it."

Nobody has to MAKE them look stupid. In fact, it doesn't even have to be pointed out. It's blatantly obvious.

YES. Because the left, the Dem Party leaders are following the strategy of Hollywood publicists.

Even bad news is publicity. Even if it is made up.

Most of us think of referring to the MSM for 'truth', and yet how many issues of Natnl Inquirer (and it's ilk) are bought up at the checkout stand?

"I had R-2/D-2's Baby"

The Mayor knew he should address the media, and complain about..... well whatever. Just complain.

That will be remembered more than why he complained.

People are funny.
