Cambridge, Md. -- The eavesdropping tables were turned on President Bush on Friday. The president apparently believed he was speaking privately when he talked about listening in without a warrant on domestic communications with suspected al-Qaida terrorists overseas. But reporters were the ones doing the listening in this time.
The incident happened at a House Republican retreat. After six minutes of public remarks by the president, reporters were ushered out. "I support the free press, let's just get them out of the room," Bush said,

Bravo President!
...reporters were ushered out. "I support the free press, let's just get them out of the room," Bush said...And if you really believe President Bush did not know the microphones were on,...sigh... well, I guess you'll still vote.

However, the microphones stayed on for a few minutes. That allowed journalists back at the White House to eavesdrop on Bush's defense of the eavesdropping. His private statements were basically no different from what he's said in public. The too smart by half azzhole who thought leaving the mikes on was a good idea should be looking for new employment by now.

"I support the free press, let's just get them out of the room," Bush said I support 'em too but would prefer them in another room.
Next door maybe or perhaps in Idaho.

I kind of agree with you that Bush probably knew the mikes were still on. But I also agree with those who know that this guy's character is such that he does say what he means and he probably could get caught on tape most of any day and not say too much that could be controversial.
If I were pres, I'd probably say too much in private about concentration camps for Barbara Streisand and Michael Moore...so I wouldn't have the temperament to be pres. :-0

These fools think if they persist in playing their infantile "gotcha" games that one day they're going to head the motherlode, but what they don't understand is that they already have a "motherload", and that "load" is refreshed on a daily basis, from countless liberal/left newspapers, networks, radio stations, websites, etc.
I think everyone knows what that "load" consists of.
Meanwhile, our President is trying to wage war on the enemies of America, while his political adversaries try to tie one (or both) of his arms behind his back.
