Torino?
Is that the one city in Italia?
Not all that far away from Roma?

Only one thing about Italian culture that they've missed.
The FOOD!Woulda been COOL if they'd gone all out and made the Olympic rings out of pizzas!
Then they could've had Father Guido Sarducci light the flame.

If this horrid opening ceremonies had taken place in Stalin's Russia, they would have executed the choreographer. What a horrid and disappointing display. They must have purchased that 1980's soundtrack during the March of Nations for $7.99 plus tax on some Saturday morning paid program.
Yoko and Sarandan: nuff said. "Imagine" if Peter Gabriel still had talent; It wasn't easy, I tried. The weird dancers were MUMENSHATZ dropouts, and that futuristic ballet guy with the spiked hair made me yearn for Armageddon.
It all left me feeling a slight embarrassment for being human. Let the Games Begin!

2. Isabel Allende: Chile - Writer and journalist The greatest Latin-American writer, Not even the most liberal professor of Latin American literature would agree with that statement. Where does the olympic committee get off?

Yep, but the ones that they highlighted like Slutskaya most certainly don't and speak with disdain about their U.S. competitors. (Factoid of the day... Slutskaya was a sulky poor sport when Sarah Hughes beat her in 2002. If Sasha starts following her around the ice and "accidentally bumping into her," Sasha'll win major brownie points in my book.)
Also, while it's cool for them to highlight a really unknown long shot from Kenya or something in fluff pieces during the actual competition; Opening Ceremony fluff on NBC should be reserved solely for U.S. athletes. They spent the first part of the intro. discussing U.S. athletes, and I was shouting at the T.V. to get to the Americans already!!!
To: Kirkwood
They may have made sense from an Alpine society standpoint, but the choreography was just bad.

Man... that was torturous with Susan Sarandan representing the USA, carrying the Olympic flag and Yoko Ono ruining the words to 'Imagine' with her peace spiel and attempt at being a beatnik.
Did Yoko say something about the world needing 1 billion people to think and say peace over and over again? - Somebody aught to tell her that there's more than 1 billion people in China alone. Plus, there are these idiots known as terrorists that need to be killed first!

I thought Costas sucked. Seeing Sarandon was bad enough and then Yoko? And has NBC ever heard of translators?
Remember just think peace and everything will be A-OK! BARF!

I thought she said one million -- and I'm thinking to myself, "Well, Yoko, how's that working out for you?"

Late to this part of the party:
I swear by Kiss My Face olive oil soap! (I have MCS and am allergic to so many things, that I was thrilled to find one that I can use!) It's expensive, but it lasts so much longer than commercial-type bar soaps (Dove, etc.) because it's not whipped up full of air. Unlike commercial bar soap, it doesn't melt away while it sits in the soap dish.

What do you think -- should I just go to bed now? I'm responding the next day, and I'm wondering, did you last thru the entire ceremony? (smile)

Do I sense a wee bit of sarcasm here? Only a little bit. Actually during the last Olympics we watched some of the curling. Number one son was making fun of it and after a while we were hooked on it. It has become a running family joke.
Mentioned to number two son the Olympics were starting this weekend and there was an instant loud "Curling Is Back" yell from him.
Please don't tell anyone else here but I actually looked up the Curling schedule last night.
Hmmmm. Will have to see what I can find on Denmark.
