God Bless Sam Johnson!
Now THERE is a guy who ought to be running for President!
He understands exactly the situation that America faces, he has the experience of knowing the effect that yellowbellies in Congress can have on the morale of our troops, he knows what is at stake in the global War on Terror, he's from Texas, he's a Republican, and he's not afraid to kick Murtha's ass up one side and down the other.
Anyone for a Draft Sam Johnson/2008 Committee? ;)

"took fellow Congressman John Murtha (D-Pa.) and the U.S. media behind the proverbial woodshed for a verbal walloping."
They should be taken out back of the Capitol building for a literal ass-kicking.

John Murtha is probably one of those along with Kerry and Leahy that Mr. Porter J. Goss is investigating about the terrorist friendly leaks that keep emanating from Washington..................

Colonel Sam Johnson (Ret), now a U.S. Congressman is a true American hero and has earned the right to criticize a fellow Congressman. The one thing he did not mention is that his fellow Congressman told our young people they should not enlist in the American military. For that I consider his colleague a traitor.

Googled Sam Johnson. Born October 11, 1930. Would make him 75 years old today, and in November of 2008 would make him 78. Wonderful man. As for the Presidency, time has passed him by. I knew, when I saw he was in both KOREA and Vietnam, we are looking at an oldster. No offense to the great Congressman...

The Koran war is the one we got going right now. I like the typo.

Anyone for a Draft Sam Johnson/2008 Committee? ;) The man is far too solid to be a politician. Thank God we have some like him. Unfortunately there are none like him coming up in the ranks in either party. Perhaps some principled veterans of afghan/irag will enter politics. Civilian life doesn't produce these kind.

"We need to stay there for as long as it takes if we want democracy to take root in tyranny's back yard." ... We must stay the course if we want to foster a stable Iraq and create hope for millions in the Middle East," Johnson said.
I agree with all of this, but I think we're missing a huge point, and that is that we're trying to prevent the establishment of a caliphate. I know President Bush talked about it several months ago and Rep. Johnson spoke of our not wanting to fight on our soil, but we're not hearing it enough and the point about the caliphate isn't being made strongly or clearly enough. We might gain the support of some current detractors if we more strongly emphasize the huge risk we face (from terrorists bent on establishing a caliphate) than we emphasize our spreading freedom. I know that spreading freedom is a key to fighting the establishment of a caliphate; but I don't think the peacniks/liberals get it. Maybe they'll "get it" if they can see it as their losing freedom of the press or as their own heads being sliced off.
