Katie Claims Carroll Captors "Not as Vicious"

Perhaps inspired by the discovery of new species in New Guinea, Katie Couric has made a discovery of her own: a new breed of terrorists that are "not as vicious."

She interviewed NBC reporter Richard Engel on this morning's Today show in the wake of the release of a new videotape of Jill Carroll, the US journalist kidnapped in Iraq last month. The tape showed a composed Carroll speaking with a floral backdrop behind her. Katie, ever the fashion maven, declared "it's actually kind of a pretty setting." Engel explained that the captors appear to be sending the message that they are looking to negotiate.

It could well be that for tactical reasons, the kidnappers might want to talk rather than kill at this time. But Couric took things a giant step further, interpreting their actions as reflecting that, deep down inside, these are killers with a warm 'n fuzzy side. She suggested to Engel:

"As far as you know, this particular splinter group is not as vicious as some of the others we've seen in the past."

Engel let Couric down easy. "Yes," he responded at first, but then let reality creep in:

"I don't think you can take too much comfort in that. Because she's still under their complete control and this group can change their opinions very quickly. Right now there's something of a vote going on on extremist websites where they're asking people, asking the followers whether they think Jill Carroll should be killed or whether she should be kept alive and unfortunately the majority of the people who are writing into these web sites said that they think she should be killed."

We'll cut Katie slack for wanting to hope for the best in this anguishing situation. But can Couric really believe that these terrorists, reportedly former members of Saddam's barbarous security services, wouldn't kill Carroll in a heartbeat if it suited their purposes?

Couric displayed the kind of naivete that can be lethal when dealing with terrorism.

I wonder if she would think it's a pretty setting if she was the one sitting there. Unbelievably shallow.

Not as "vicious" what is this supposed to mean? That they will shoot you first before they cut your head off with a chainsaw.
Katie you are such a naive idiot. Amen.

"Katie 'Hopefully Saddam Made it to Syria' Couric" is an appeasing moron.

She should stick to colonoscopies, they might find her brains next time.

"Right now there's something of a vote going on.."

See? They do too have democracy over there!

Kind of lends a new twist to "being voted off".

Hmmmmm....might they not be as vicious because the kidnapping is fake and the 'journalist' is a dupe for Islam?

Bingo! ... that's been my thought all along, although didn't her translator get killed in the initial kidnapping?

"..why does the MSM parade such blazing stupidity and cluelessness in public like that?"

Why, it's very simple; One merely has to assume that the reason NBC pays her the big bucks is not for what she knows, but rather BECAUSE SHE IS STUPID!

Then everything falls neatly into place.

...as Jill Carroll's severed-head bounces onto the Today set in front of her.

"Couric displayed the kind of naivete that can be lethal when dealing with terrorism."

Naivete, in this case, equals stupidity rather than ignorance. I swear that woman must have someone put her shoes on the right feet every morning.

LOL!

"Um, those are nice, but I was really thinking that the Manolo Blahniks that Sarah Jessica wore in the finale of Sex and the City would really bring out the floral highlights."

That's what we are thinking, too. She might be there as a willing accomplice. "I'll go to Iraq to 'help' the people, maybe I can help raise money for those poor, beleagered downtrodden Muzzies."

Not to slander her, but it is certainly worth chewing on.

So...now the internet voters are the same as Roman spectators giving their "thumbs down"?

Let us hope her kidnappers have the sense not to take an internet poll seriously.

As far as Katie getting warm and fuzzy? Perhaps the charm of Turin, Italy and the Olympics have clouded the minimal judgement she has remaining between her ears.

Judgement? Scratch that. Did you see that stupid coat she was wearing when the pigeons dumped on her?
