St. Mark's Hospital, a brand new facility which opened in June of 2005 in La Grange, TX with state-of-the-art facilities, is already running a $2 million deficit due to "indigent care" (read illegal immigrant care). A member of the La Grange Lions Club has told South Texas News correspondent Mene Upharsin that hospital administration officials visited the local La Grange Lions Club and reported that the healthcare facility, which features the latest technological advances in x-ray, sonogram and MRI equipment, has the huge funding disparity due to primarily illegal immigrant care and Medicare changes by the government leading to a huge backlog in unpaid bills.
Patients who have come to the hospital report that a new policy requires that copays be paid before elective services are provided even if the patients are insured. If a copay is not submitted, services are denied even to insured patients. However, indigents who go to the Emergency Room (ER) for service can not be turned away even if the illness is a minor one, like a bad cold or flu. Childbirth and auto wreck incidents also drain the hospitals of revenue when illegals are involved and don't pay. The Federal emlata law requires hospitals to treat ALL emergency room patients whether they can pay or not.
So, while insured, paying customers are turned away for no "copay", illegal immigrants are obtaining essential services at everyone else's expense. Many Americans, even naturalized citizens, are calling for legislation requiring that ALL patients have to pay for services received. Politicians, seeking votes from the masses of poor, are loathe to listen.
Don't worry, Hillarycare will save us!/major sarc
The emlata law is only for ER care, not elective services.
When Hillary is elected Chancellor, we could all use some savin'.
I say "Just shoot 'em".
using healthcare americans wont use?

"Something better be done or we're going to National Health Care in which case everyone will end up waiting weeks or months for critical healthcare services."
that is the whole PURPOSE of allowing this!!!!!!!!!!
it is a two pronged approach to forcing socialist healthcare down america's throat.
#1 shyster lawyers suing doctors and raising the cost of providing healthcare and cost to insure
#2 illegal aliens bankrupting hospitals
when the system is broken, the politicians will ride to america's "rescue" with a "plan" to "fix" everything!!!
socialist healthcare!!!!!
LaGrange has just over 4,000 people, Fayette County has only 21,000 so the area for this hospital is a couple of counties.
Da da da da da da da da da daaaaaaaahh....
(t)hat is the whole PURPOSE of allowing this!!!!!!!!!!
I Got It!
I have a vid-cap of the next Press Conference that extolls the virtues of Illegal Infiltration out of la Hacienda Blanco!
It as a HUGE risk for me...I hope you all appreciate it!
If it wasn't for the hair...I'd SWEAR that was Jerkoff-Chertoff...but there is a distinct Klinton resemblance as well.
La Grange has MORE than 5,000 people -- illegals have NOT been counted and quite a few live there and in the county. An even higher percentage live in surrounding towns.
Then, when the contractions come or the water breaks, they run to the emergency room. A source has informed me of one woman who started having contractions went to the emergency room at THE LA GRANGE HOSPITAL and waited for hours in the waiting room until her water broke and then was admitted (per emlata law) and had her baby. In this manner, they are able avoid HAVING to pay for the childbirth services.
The Catholic church is complicit in all of this through their advocacy and assistance to illegal aliens from Latin America (it makes sense) and for arguing for healthcare services for the indigent population. We are heading straight for National Health Care (which will benefit almost no one). One last note -- Mexico just implemented National Health Care and everyone has to apply for a medical card and can not be turned down for services. One is charged per "ability to pay" and the majority only make small payments. Hospitals all over Mexico are hiring extra staff to take care of the surge in patients.
The United States needs to wake up. Now.
You of course mean "we the people" need to wake up, eh? BTW, do you know who owns the hospital?
My last Texas Almanac (some years old) says 4200+ which is just over 4000 and not enough of a difference from 5000 to argue about. The point was that there are not 40,000.
Right you are. On my property in TN some years ago, the Census didn't count ANY of us. Missed 15 persons. And, that times they missed people in that town times thousands of towns...their numbers are not accurate.
I believe it has a private board -- and it has been taking donations from surrounding communities. This problem is not isolated to THIS hospital. It's nationwide.
