Tancredo Throws Punches at Bush
Human Events ^ | February 9 2006 | Robert B. Bluey

Posted on 02/09/2006 12:18:44 PM PST by Reagan Man

Rep. Tom Tancredo (R.-Colo.) didn’t hold back in his criticism of President Bush this morning at the Conservative Political Action Conference—delivering what amounted to a presidential stump speech that could have easily been delivered in New Hampshire or Iowa.

Tancredo attacked the administration for its support of a guest-worker program for illegal aliens and its big-spending ways on education and Medicare prescription drugs.

“It is the President who is out of step with his party, not Tom Tancredo,” the Colorado Republican said to applause at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Northwest Washington, D.C.

Tancredo called for the repeal of two programs offered by President Bush: the No Child Left Behind Act and the Medicare prescription drug program. Both expanded the cost of government and drew the scorn of conservatives in Congress.

Tancredo said the Big Government policies of the Bush administration need to be halted. He said conservatives must return the GOP to a “party of individual rights and shouldn’t afraid to say it.”

The thing that bothers me somewhat about the immigration issue is that it's a little like President George H.W. Bush and his "Read my lips..." tax pledge. That got us Perot and, as a result, the Clintons. If Dubya doesn't address this very important (and volatile) issue with something other than Guest Worker appeasement, there will surely be another Third Party movement, perhaps with someone such as Tancredo at its helm.

It also depends on what you define as amnesty. If you define amnesty as a bill that provides illegals a path to citizenship then McKennedy is amnesty. If you define amnesty as a bill that allows illegals to get a legal status without leaving the country to apply then the Bush plan is amnesty. I cant really see how Kyl/Cornyn could be called amnesty but Im sure there is an argument. The technical meaning of amnesty absolves probably any bill that would ever be introduced. A 1$ fine would mean it wasnt amnesty.

>>>>ReaganMan is a fraud. Nothing he says reflects Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment. His posts are a disgrace to RR's memory.

Wow. When all else fails, never mind the issues, the facts or the truth, attack the poster. LOL

Ronald Reagan didn't create the slogan, the Eleven Commandment. It turned up during Reagan's 1966 run for California Governorship. From Reagan, in his own words.

"The personal attacks against me during the primary finally became so heavy that the state Republican chairman, Gaylord Parkinson, postulated what he called the Eleventh Commandment: Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican. It's a rule I followed during that campaign and have ever since.

Reagan actually broke that promise in the 1976 GOP primary against PresFord. He spoke ill of a fellow Republican. In fact, he criticized Ford on a daily basis. Right up through and including, the GOP Convention.

Bad analogy. Besides, I think we may agree on the Stealers SB40 victory. You should know better. Politics is a different animal then sports. Completely different.

Tancredo has already ebbed. I understand your point, but if anyone is to fear by going 3rd party (Independent) it's McCain.

We need troops on the border, but I really think it'll take another terrorist hit traceable to the porous border before anyone in our pitiful congressional houses actually vote what they most assuredly know is right.

" I have no idea what "OBSTENSIBLY" means, but it's a big word so it must mean Tancredo supporters have outsmarted his detractors!"

No.

It means Dubya hasn't bamboozled (oops, is THAT too big a word for ya?) his "detractractors."

But I guess allowing an unfettered illegal invasion is just more "strategery," right?

IF (it's only a matter of time) we get hit again, it's the "porous border" that will be blamed in ANY case....AND the GOP.

McCain? I think he's more a threat to run as a Democrat.

This is called 'tunnel vision'.

I include the Canadian border. Lots of Muslims there to slip into Detroit... their American mecca.

McCain will not go democrat, as per DH.

... But I can't help it if some posters find George W. Bush the Second Coming, and the GOP His Apostles.

Nor can you help it if some FReepers find you a disruptor.

You're still stuck on these words "making" and "forcing".

Hey, I'm just trying to give your man the benefit of the doubt here. Maybe you're right, though - maybe he wasn't forced against his will to break his pledge. Maybe he's a liar of his own volition and by his own choice. Maybe he broke his word voluntarily and with malice aforethought. And yet you still support him and still rationalize it all away.

Well, whatever. Go right ahead, but none for me, thanks.

Nobody going to brand Tancredo as a political opportunist? I thought somebody would be all over that one.

Its so obvious it isn't necessary is it?

Compasionate conservative is just another way of saying i'm a socialist!

I think you meant to say, "Compasionate conservative is just another way of saying you're a socialist!"

Were we talking about you I think I'd insert nationalist somewhere.

Swan dive OR belly flop?

Tancredo has done nothing. He is not charged with immigration law enforcement and border security like the President.

"obstensibly" is misspelled.
Here are some suggestions:

obsessively
obscenity
absents
observably
abstains
obstetrically
abstrusely
obscenest
observingly
obsess
obsessing
obsessive
abstrusity
obsession
obstinately

Honestly, I have no idea what "obstensibly" means; nor does spell check. I do know that many people are obstinately obsessing over the alleged obscenity of our border policy with the President observably absents himself. Is that what you meant to say?

Whew, I hope so because he is my senator and I can't stand the thought of him being pushed to the fore-front in this race.
