Maybe one cartridge company is the parent company of the other. That's the only shoe that fits.

Maybe Federal assembles all the bits and boxes it, but ATK makes the projectiles and powder? Or a different combination of the above.

I know Alliant manufactures smokeless powder - I have part of a pound of Reloder 7 at home for relaoding for my Marlin 1895. I don't know if they make assembled cartridges. I'm guessing that Federal uses Alliant powder in their ammo.

You're correct. Alliant Tech Systems is a parent company and now owns the entire sporting division of Blount Inc.

That was RCBS, CCI, Outers, Weaver, etc. Alliant Tech also purchased Hercules Powder Company some years back.

Blount had purchased Federal Cartridge company sometime before there subsequent sale to Alliant. So now it is owned by Alliant. Alliant is also a big defense contractor which makes among other things, rounds for the Abrams tank.
