WASHINGTON -- In an effort to reduce global warming, 86 evangelical Christian leaders are calling for federal action to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
Signers of the Evangelical Climate Initiative include the Rev. Rick Warren, Wheaton College President Duane Litfin, and leaders of World Vision and the Salvation Army.
All maintain that humans cause global warming and can help stop it, and that doing so is a way to care for God's creation and save the world's poor from an increase in natural disasters.
Other evangelical leaders refused to join the campaign, including Southern Baptist leader Richard Land, Focus on the Family's James Dobson, Prison Fellowship founder Charles Colson and the Rev. D. James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Ministries.
They've signed a separate letter that says Christians "disagree about the cause, severity and solutions to the global warming issue."
Maybe they should shut their mouths and save on some of that co2.
'86' the 86
Isn't a large comet called Wormwood supposed to slam into the earth and kill 1/3 of mankind? And these evangelicals are concerned about vehicle emissions? Why? They need to go save a few souls, instead of a worrying about maintaining a kingdom on earth.
It's gonna take a powerfull lot o' givin' t' heal this old world....so dig deep bretheren......
Dang, where did I leave the freakin channel changer?
Oh, crap. I think these folks ought to read the Bible that they proclaim to believe. Mankind does NOT destroy the world, according to the Bible.
Mr "evangelical" "leader", stick with what you know best - bake sales and baptisms. Stay out of public policy and economics - you will only expose your naivete...
I'm more worried about walking down the street and getting swallowed by an earthquake or getting thrown into orbit by a rogue volcano.
Satan has convinced them that attracting liberals to their church is more important than the truth.
You're right. As a matter of fact by the end of the book of Revelation, there's not much left of the planet. A little global warming now is like spitting into the wind.
They need to learn some meteorology, too.

So, is it safe to say that this group of pastors doesn't put much faith in the Rapture sparing their heathen butts?
I half expected this thread to be about Mark 4:35-41 or thereabouts...
Cheers!
I guess Rick Warren has finally found his "purpose".
Put your offering in the basket or we'll get God to send an El Nino after you.
86 of how many?
I think the best argument against the human population as the cause of global warming is in the facts. About 20,000 years ago there was a large glacial expansion, or the last ice age. Unless cavemen were making an astronomical amount of campfires, it would seem that the earth warmed through natural means. But why let the facts get in the way of some good hype.
Cyclical weather changes have going on for billions of years
Exactly. The proper understanding of science moves us closer to God. The misproper use of science moves us closer to hell. Remember, God gave us free will. We chose sin early on, and now we are trying to get back.
The earth will do what its gotta do. What happens when the magnetic poles shift completely? Is that Bush's fault? Give me a break. The hilarity of it is when Gore was giving a speech in New York a couple of years ago about global warming and they were having a blizzard outside the meeting hall. ha ha. What a pied piping loser.
Yeah, he seems to be buying into every left-wing social gospel idea out there.
'Beatable'with what? Press conference? How about a trillion dollars in government mandates? Are any of these evangelists offering to turn their house of worship into solar factories? Are they calling on their congregations to turn in their SUVs and Lincoln Town cars for hybrids? When they do, I'll try to pay attention again. Until then, stop warming the environment with your hot air.
