A Lubbock state representative has been called up to deploy to the Middle East.
Rep. Carl Isett, R-Lubbock, will serve as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and "assume a leadership role" in the creation of a new U.S. Navy logistics battalion, according to a statement from his office.
Isett is a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He will serve as executive officer of a new 445 Navy Reserve Logistics battalion that will operate in several locations in Kuwait and Iraq, according to the statement.
The representative will deploy within the "next several weeks" and is expected to spend six to seven months overseas, according to the statement.
His military service will not interfere with his legislative responsibilities, Isett said in the statement.
"While my assignment will take me away from my family, fiends and the legislative district I represent in Lubbock for a period of time, I am confident that I will continue to be able to well serve my constituents in the 84th House District," Isett said.
Hub City Ping
I heard this today on the radio. I also heard that under Texas law he will keep his seat in the legislature while on active duty.
So does that mean W. Texas will have one less vote during the special?
Thanks for the ping. Prayers for him and his family.
Thanks for the post & the ping!
He and his family will be in our prayers.
Sending your stuff tomorrow, BTW. :)
He has served well in office and I know that he will serve well in Iraq.
Good luck and G-dspeed, Isett.
May God guide him and protect him.
Isett is a good guy and I am proud to have voted for him and this just makes me all the more proud.
And a courageous man as well.
Not to mention fecund. The man has eight kids.
In that case he needs to go to Iraq or another far away place.
LOL!
I met him at a local GOP rally several years ago. He is a very open and frank guy and genuinely works for his district.
No, Isset will have someone voting for him. He also will be in contact with his chief of staff on a daily basis, though phone calls and emails. Carl is a good man, but he will have his anti-home schooling after his job.
