DUBAI, Feb 8 (Reuters) - Muslims have decried as hypocrites Western dailies which have cited free speech as the reason for printing disrespectful cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad, saying the same newspapers take pains to avoid lampooning Jews.
The caricatures, first published in a Danish daily in September and then reprinted across Europe, have unleashed fury among Muslims who view any portrayal of their Prophet as blasphemous, let alone one showing him as a terrorist.
What is really insulting, some Muslim clerics and politicians say, is that Europeans do not think twice about denigrating Islam but view ridicule of Judaism as anti-Semitic.
"What about freedom of expression when anti-Semitism is involved? Then it is not freedom of expression. Then it is a crime," said Arab League chief Amr Moussa.
"But when Islam is insulted, certain powers ... raise the issue of freedom of expression. Freedom of expression should be one yardstick, not two or three," he said, adding that the Danish cartoons showed European disdain for Arabs and Muslims.

I guess they don't react in the same "ho-hum" way that Christians react to denigration of their God.
Trouble is, Mo is not their god, he is merely their prophet. At least Islam acknowledges Jesus Christ as a prophet while the Talmud teaches Jews to spit at the mention of the name.
I agree entirely.
But that right, in the Modern PC world only the feelings of the of self proclaimed "Victim" groups must be respected. It's not only acceptable, but required, to mock Christians or Jews in the Modern Left's view.
Funny, haven't seen too many Jews flying planes into buildings and then claiming they are a religion of peace.

Still is, here at Freerepublic. I've seen some really ugly things here. It's only one confession though, and in fairness a minority even within that.
In light of Egyptian-U.S. tensions, Egyptian government newspapers published a number of anti-American cartoons in recent days. The daily Al-Akhbar published a cartoon on March 14, 2005, in which Bush looks in a mirror and sees the image of Adolph Hitler.
The weekly Akhbar Al-Yawm published a cartoon on March 12, 2005, in which President Bush is portrayed as an angel, but with cloven hooves and a pointy tail.

The Arab nations do not like each other or Iran and they look down on "dirty" Pakistanis. (In fact, one Arab country uses the Arabic name for Egypt as a dirty word.) This internal strife among Arabs is a relative safety factor for non-Arab neighbors.
However, as soon as their religion is attacked, they unite. Not good for the neighbors and for the rest of the world.
Doesn't mean that they should be treated with kid gloves but it is the truth.
NO better way to demonstrate you are peaceful than to burn and kill. The cartoons are not nearly as offensive as Muslims themselves.

Meanwhile, Amr, the Arab-European League (who the late Theo van Gogh referred to as The Pimp of the Prophet) seems to be able to express their anti-Semitism without any problems at all.. They’re in Antwerp, maybe you consider that part of the Caliphate now, the rest of the world calls it Europe.
The cartoons are offensive, maybe I’ll run out and torch an embassy. Wonder if the President and State Dept will condem them, since they do that now. If State has to condemn every cartoon in the Muslim press, they'll have no time for anything else, which might not be so bad.

DU is now an official Muslim web-site. They are calling Muhammad the "beloved prophet" and how he was persecuted for praying peacefully. I guess 24 offensive wars are a trifle They are also quoting the love of the Koran. All they need now is a link to Al Queda and they'll get their wish about being listened in on by the NSA.
That's the cleanest cut I've seen of the problem yet. I've read the Koran, and had more than a passing experience with Muslim culture. They use their religion to bandage deep seated insecurities and feelings of inferiority. If there's anything they need to develop, it's a sense of humor and some confidence. They'd leave militant Islam by the wayside once they learn to get over themselves.
Anyway, thanks for the new tagline.
On occasion the NYT still surprises me.
