George C. Deutsch, the young presidential appointee at NASA who told public affairs workers to limit reporters' access to a top climate scientist and told a Web designer to add the word "theory" at every mention of the Big Bang, resigned yesterday, agency officials said.
Mr. Deutsch's resignation came on the same day that officials at Texas A&M University confirmed that he did not graduate from there, as his résumé on file at the agency asserted.

Oh, I thought he / she was joking - didn't the quote from "A Bug's Life" give it away?
That's funny, being in a government organization you'd think he'd use the GPO Style Manual, and that doesn't mention whether to use "theory" with "Big Bang."
I didn't insist on anything in the first place. I merely didn't see anything objectionable about calling the Big Bang the "Big Bang Theory".
I don't have any objection to your calling creationism "Creationism Theory", either.
But, of course, the unspoken debate here is how these things are referred to in schools, where the Big Bang is freely discussed, and any mention of creationism is prohibited.
I agree. Liberalism on full display is a good thing. I just hope they keep it up through the elections.
Looks to me like somebody from Rove's office or elsewhere in the WH contacted Deutsch after October 5, *asking* him to adhere to the Republican Party line.
So, you weren't joking above - my bad.
O.K., since that's the reason he gave and the NASA web site from 1997 (before the younger Deutsch ever worked there) refers to the THEORY as such, I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now - there are 150 posts after the one you are responding to - perhaps you should read the rest of this thread before posting your ignorance for all to see?
He has a column dated October 11, 2001 and he was at Texas A&M then.

It was tongue in cheek. In a serious way. ;)
> So you insist that every mention of 'creationism' actually be 'Creation Theory', then?
To be accurate, it would be "Creation Myth." "Theory" is wholly inapplicable to religious dogma.
My concern is that he DID graduate from Texas A&M with whatever degree is on his resume, but subsequently dropped out of the graduate School of Journalism? That program is no longer offered at Texas A&M, so I cannot find anything else.
Standard IDer rhetoric. It is not merely "opninion," but the best science has to offer as an explanation. It was conceived by a Catholic priest and not taken seriously for decades (Hoyle came up with the name "big bang" while making fun of it). Only after improved technology allowed better observation did the theory start to gain acceptance, as evidence started pouring in to support it.
They're stupid so they will.
The problem is that due to his other statements we know he's pandering to those who like to confuse the vernacular "theory" with the scientific "theory" to try to discredit the theory.
One last time: you need to realize that most scientific principles are "theories" because to prove them would take many centuries, or in the case of Big Bang Theory, billions and billions of years. I agree that the current state of data does indicate that the Big Bang Theory is how the universe came into existence, but since it would take so long to prove it, it is still called a theory. Get it?
Once you've read the entire thread, please point out WHERE I tried to discredit the Big Bang Theory.
The story here is that there is a NASA scientist with a bug up his rear about his ability to talk about global warming. These folks are squawking about political control of information. It does go both ways. I have no problem with a resume forger being exposed, but obviously there is a political war going on at NASA.
Yeah, I'm sure that's one of Rove's prime directives. Sheesh,zzzzzzzzzz.......
And if said NASA scientist could be fired, I would find a way.
Unlike Dems, who get praise and promotion.
Well, since some DUmmies really believe Karl Rove is using NASA lasers to direct hurricanes, why would any of this surprise you?
