Jimmy Carter may or may not have been the worst president of the 20th century — history will have the final word on that — but his disgraceful performance yesterday at Coretta Scott King's funeral marks him as the most shameless. Maybe of all time.
There is, after all, a time and place for everything — but not for Carter.
In a reprehensible (albeit typical) display of tone-deafness, the former president used the funeral of Dr. Martin Luther King's widow to score cheap points against President Bush. (He wasn't alone in that regard, more of which in a bit.)
Carter warmed up by conjuring the outlandish conspiracy theories that still linger from Hurricane Katrina: "We only have to recall the color of the faces of those in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi who are most devastated by Katrina to know that there are not yet equal opportunities for all Americans."
Then he segued on to the Bush administration.
In what could only be taken as a direct attack on Bush's electronic surveillance of suspected terrorists — a program Carter has repeatedly denounced as "illegal" — the ex-prez said of Mrs. King and her slain husband, Martin Luther King, "they became the targets of secret government wiretapping and other surveillance."

I made 2 trips to egypt under carter, on the first one, ameicans has to travel in packs of not less than 4 when on shore leave, and on the second one, the egyptions we driving around, praising the americans, yelling "jimmy carter" from their crappy cars as they drove by us....and i guess the arabs still love him....but as for me, i will use one of my retired taglines " time to get the old hippies out of government"
I hope the good people of Nevada have the sense to make
certain that Jimmah's son does not become Senator. Let's
hope he goes down to a resounding defeat in November.
I was stationed at USCG Headquarters in DC during the abysmal Carter years. Carter actually ordered us NOT to wear our uniforms at work as it upset the civilians in Washington to see so much military presence.
This would make a nice "letter to the liberal editor".
Fortunately, history will NOT be kind to peanut-man. When he croaks, the libnutmedia will be in serious deep doo-doo as they try to triangulate and obfuscate any sort of legacy. What's he done?
His legacy is that he was POTUS with the worst foreign and domestic policy ever. I've wondered why he didn't simply fade away out of public life. A normal person with his abysmal record would be mortified.
Of all our presidents, Carter is the one who is the most subversive and expresses his love of Communism. He's not even a man, he's a sick, twisted POS.
You left out "surrender to the Soviets just before they collapsed," "malaise" and "give away the Panama Canal to the Communists," etc. I despise that man more than any other human being. He's not just stupid, vain, sneaky, two-faced and hateful -- he's downright dangerous to America.
Me, too, in a way. I was a young teen with parents who were registered, voting Democrats. I was leaning that way, DemocRat. Jimmah 'convinced' me, and definitely was the final straw for my mother who changed parties and voted for Reagan both times he ran.
Maybe we should give him more airtime...along with Howard Dean!
When I was young we had a saying that applies here: "Kill it quick before it reproduces!"
Unfortunately Nevada is now run by one populous city: Las Vegas. It consists of Democrap transplants from New Jersey crime families and former California liberals. Nevada's becoming the Western version of Vermont.

That is NOT the face of a man who has inner peace. He is a man of deep bitterness, resentment and anger. There is not much difference between this face and Hillary's.
I agree with Medved on this.
You know, that is a perfect example of mismanagement. Rather then get all defensive about it and freaked out about it, which allowed it to become an issue, he should have turned it into a self-deprecating moment to use to prove some sort of political point. Reagan, Clinton and Bush all do that regularly with great effect.
The man was absolutely incapable of managing even the smallest of issues.
