AD DAWR, Iraq (Army News Service, Feb. 7, 2006) Eight Iraqi soldiers were recently awarded Combat Life Saver certificates after receiving training in basic medical diagnostic and treatment procedures from 2-9 Cavalry troopers.
Anything that we can do combined operations, training them, supplying them, and teaching them to do that for themselves is what will eventually win Iraqi freedom, said Lt. Col. Louis Lartigue, commander, 2-9 Cav. Reg.
Lartigue then allocated temporarily six armored Humvees to Company D, 1st Brigade, 4th Iraqi Army Division to help equip them as the Iraqis take on greater responsibilities and eventually run clinics around Ad Dawr.
The Iraqi soldiers will act as medics in their unit and will eventually start working in clinics around Ad Dawr.
Lt. Col. Richard Knowland, nurse practitioner, Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 2-9 Cavalry Regiment, led the training along with other members of the medical operations team.
Iraqi Co. D 1st Sgt. Fared Rashed Abed said the comprehensive medical training his soldiers received will go a long way in helping them to reopen the companys aid station.
This medical training has built great confidence in my soldiers, Rashed said.
The training has since paid off for one Iraqi medic. Cpl. Alli Mohammed Nidi, 1st Platoon, Co. D, reacted when one of his fellow troopers was shot in the shoulder while on patrol. Nidi performed emergency first aid by controlling the soldiers bleeding and preparing him for transport to a medical facility.

Gee-whiz more positive training for the Iraqi Military
