I studied Arabic in the Army (MOS 98G) and I don't remember learning a word for "irony." Maybe that explains why the answer to cartoons linking the Prophet with backward and violent followers is to carry signs saying "Freedom go to hell" and calling for the beheading of cartoonists.

Great. For an encore, the ayatollah can put his thumb on his nose and fart in Denmark's general direction (if he knows where that is). That'll show 'em!!

They will call it free speech.

"Yep, uh huh, jokes about the Jewish faith will really show the Danes."

Obsessed aren't they? They could make some jokes about vikings, but that risks being funny - which they are not.

Considering all the blood libel "Cartoons" about Jews drinking Palestinian blood that have all ready been published in various Islamic papers, I would think the Muslims owe the Jews an apology now that the shoe is on the other foot.

The New York TIMES itself is at pains not to publish cartoons -- at least the funny kind. I wonder if it will make an exception for side-splitting Holocaust humor

"Freedom go to hell" and calling for the beheading of cartoonists."

That has been one of the more surrealistic elements of all this.

All this does is prove the insanity of islam. Ahmadijihad has more loose screws that my old BMW. Not to mention that he is working against the islamic cause in the west. Some few liberals (numbers diminishing daily) blurt that we need to be sensitive to muslims and then Ahmadi opens his yap and shoves them away.

I use to miss the Friday night fights on TV...no more. We access them every day on FR.

The cartoons will be aimed at insulting Jews in relation to the holocuast a la World War II, not present-day Judaism or Isreal.

Europe has had extremely strict censorship regarding pro-Nazi sites. The Internet Nanny has been censoring those sites ever since there has been an Internet Nanny.
China censors, via Google, all Internet sites for the Chinese regarding "free China" and other such stuff.

Also, it is a CRIMINAL offense, in most of Europe, punishable by prison time, to deny the holocaust. Not so here in America, but there, yes. So, I imagine that there will be "deny holocaust" cartoons a-plenty.

So this WILL upset many Europeans who have, for the last several decades, censored SOME free speech that they deemed unacceptable.

We'll see what the reaction will be to these cartoons. My guess is that it will start a firestorm of its own.
**Hey, don't have to guess, it already HAS and not a single cartoon has been printed.

So it would be okay to hold a "Mohammed Caricature" contest?

What does Israel have to do with Denmark, anyway?  Guess Iran is showing their entire agenda ... anti-Semetism.  Where is the outrage and comdemnation from the UN and the rest of the world?

Moscow museum to exhibit Mohammed cartoons
MOSCOW, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A Moscow museum has announced it will exhibit the entire series of cartoons of Mohammed that have caused riots throughout the Islamic world.
Yury Samodurov, director of the Sakharov Museum and Public Center, said on Russian television that the center was ready to organize a public exhibition of the cartoons satirizing the founder of Islam that originally were published in a Danish newspaper, Pravda.ru reported Monday.
"We must show the whole world that Russia goes along with Europe, that the freedom of expression is much more important for us than the dogmas of religious fanatics," Samodurov said.
The exhibition reportedly will open in March. Lawyer Yury Shmidt has said he will invite French philosopher Andre Glucksmann and French novelist Michel Houellebecq to the opening ceremony to read lectures about the threat of Islamic fundamentalism.
In 2003 the Sakharov Museum outraged many Russian Orthodox believers with the art exhibit "Be Careful -- Religion," which many felt was insulting to their beliefs.

Harhar, imagine Russia saying that it's doing this to support Europe and free speech. Russia, the quinessential example of "free speech." Nyet!

I don't know why this would upset, Iranina Muslems...what is the difference beteween a Cartoon making fun of Mohammed, or naming a Pastry after Mohammed.

There IS a word for irony in Arabic, couple of them, in fact.
I can't read them anymore, too rusty, but I'll ask an Arab acquaintance (Algerian married to a girlfriend of mine) and tell you...if you are really interested.

Haha. Ask a Muslim. S/he would tell you.

You wouldn't buy it but then, somehow I knew that.
Besides you already know what their answer would be.
