BANGKOK, Thailand -- A music distributor recalled two Thai rap CDs from stores Tuesday after Muslims complained the tracks insult their faith.

An article on the Thai-language Muslim Web site http://www.muslimthai.com said a song recorded on CDs in 1998 and 2005 "clearly insults the Quran," the Muslim holy book.

It said the CDs contain verses from the Quran and "the Quran strictly forbids the use of its verses in songs."

If it was there's even bigger trouble. The Koran forbids not only melody, harmony and rhythm but orchestration as well.

"The song, "Maya," was released in 1998 on a Joey Boy CD called "Bangkok Boy" and appeared again on the 2005 compilation "The Conclusive Collection."

Let's see...the cartoons were 6 months old and now they are outraged over a song that was written in 1998? Must be hard to be an Islamist in the informaaation age...(rolling eyes)

The rapper, the songwriter, and Sony BMG's Saharat said they have requested a meeting as soon as possible with Thailand's top Muslim leader to formally apologize.

Isn't fear and trembling a delightfully awe inspiring spectacle?

Luckily it was rap music so there was no melody, harmony and orchestration, so we're good there.

So you're offended because a song makes fun of your religious faith? Welcome to the club. Just don't go burning stuff.

Not that I give a rip for his complaint, but I've read about 60% of the quran and I never saw anything that forbid the use of it's verses in songs. It could be in the portions I haven't read, but it's more likely in the same place that the 72 virgins are...that is, not in the quran at all.
