CLUELESS IN MEDIA LAND -- Yesterday's Man, Ted Koppel, Defends Old Media Status Quo
ICONOCLAST ^ | Lin Anderson

Posted on 02/07/2006 2:37:44 PM PST by Apolitical

Cyberspace to Ted: The 18-to-34 year-olds aren't disinterested in news, they're disinterested in you -- or Brian Williams or, for God's sake, Bob Schieffer -- telling them what the news is. They're getting plenty of news, all they can handle, actually. They're just getting it on another screen, one which allows them to determine for themselves what is "important".......

Poor Ted. Another has-been media fame whore longing for the good old days. Sigh!

Not only that, why should I tune in to hear whiny Leftist Losers tell me what to think about an event I all ready knew more about 5 to 15 hours before they even broadcast? It isn't just their rabid stupidity and their selective reporting, it is also the dinosaur pace they work at, that is killing them

Oh how I long for the good old days when the networks decided what was and was not important. I remember the "was not"'s well:

Rose law firm files.

900 FBI files.

Juanita Broadderick.

Travelgate.

Technology to the Chinese.

Chines campaing contributions.

Echelon.

Carnivore.

....

"... aren't disinterested in news, they're disinterested in you ..."

If the MSM were disinterested in reporting, I would be interested in what they have to say.

(Just my errant pedantry for the day.)

I guess that's one of life's little mysteries, not knowing to park it and move on.

18 to 34-year-olds? Who cares about those whippersnappers and bedwetters? :o)

I hope the author doesn't think us more "seasoned" citizens are still tied to the old MSM.

"Most television news programs are ... designed to satisfy the perceived appetites of our audiences," Ted writes. "That may be not only acceptable but unavoidable in entertainment; in news, however, it is the journalists who should be telling their viewers what is important, not the other way around."

The above is one of the most jaw-droppingly stupid, most arrogant things ever to pass the lips of a talking head on its way to broader American consumption.

I remember screaming at the TV during the recent ground war in Iraq because the reporters were so stupid regarding military things.

They are no smarter than us peons.

Cattle futures. I trade futures for my personal account. I have made some money over the years. The only way to make 100,000 out of zero in less than a year is to cheat. Not that there's anything wrong with that unless the CFTC catches you.

Vince Foster.

Johnny Chung.

Irs audits.

Anything and everything about Arkansas.

Whitewater.

Webb Hubble.

THE WALL STREET JOURNAL PUBLISHED AN ENCYCLOPEDIA, AN ENCYCLOPEDIA, ABOUT THE MULTIPLE SINS OF THE CLINTON ADMINISTRATION. IT WAS FOUR HUGE VOLUMES AS I RECALL. (If I recall correctly.)

*THAT*, more than any of the other mistaken impressions that they have, is going to hasten their demise...
