Moscow museum to exhibit Mohammed cartoons

MOSCOW, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A Moscow museum has announced it will exhibit the entire series of cartoons of Mohammed that have caused riots throughout the Islamic world.

Yury Samodurov, director of the Sakharov Museum and Public Center, said on Russian television that the center was ready to organize a public exhibition of the cartoons satirizing the founder of Islam that originally were published in a Danish newspaper, Pravda.ru reported Monday.

"We must show the whole world that Russia goes along with Europe, that the freedom of expression is much more important for us than the dogmas of religious fanatics," Samodurov said.

The exhibition reportedly will open in March. Lawyer Yury Shmidt has said he will invite French philosopher Andre Glucksmann and French novelist Michel Houellebecq to the opening ceremony to read lectures about the threat of Islamic fundamentalism.

In 2003 the Sakharov Museum outraged many Russian Orthodox believers with the art exhibit "Be Careful -- Religion," which many felt was insulting to their beliefs.

The question is WHY aren't these cartoons being shown in the United states, the birthplace of Freedom..There's a "cartoon blackout". The only newspaper i know that printed any was the philadelphia inquirer.

The law of averages/normal distrubution would indicate more of the 100's of Independent newspapers would publish them then just a very few, after all they are the center of a major news story

Tinfoil hat time: do you think it's possible the Us government is asking the media not to publish these? if that is the case then the "powder keg" may be much worse then we know

New York Sun printed them also. But those are the only two papers that did.

No, I think the American leftist media aren't publishing the cartoons because they're allies of the islamofacists. Any enemy of Bush, America, the West, is a friend of the American media. There is another reason too, they are afraid of muslim reprisals, very afraid. We all know the American leftists are cowards.

Putin is the purported "friend" of Islam. They also know they aren't hampered by overreacting to Muslim violence. You never hear about those 100K+ Chechens "euthanized" by Moscow, do you?

Wow. The former Soviet Union- one of the more repressive regimes in the world's history..is going to let a museum display The Cartoons.

While back in the USA only a couple of newspapers have even shown them..

Personally, just like with the fight being in Iraq, and not here; I would prefer the next 911 happen in Europe rather than here. The cartoon "War" has been a wakeup call for the Euroweenies.

The obvious solution is to have everybody display the cartoons everywhere until the oversensitive ones get over it.
