Thirteen more votes may be illegal Senate Republican gets data on Dist. 29 from private eye

By Marc Perrusquia Contact February 7, 2006

Days after a federal judge put up a roadblock, Senate Republicans are moving forward to void the Dist. 29 election -- armed this time with new allegations of 13 illegal votes.

Senate majority leader Ron Ramsey, R-Blountville, said Monday he's received details compiled by a private investigator on 13 people who don't live in the district but voted in the election won by Ophelia Ford.

One of the 13 is Ford's nephew.

The 13 votes being scrutinized don't include several already deemed illegal by a Senate committee, including four cast by felons and two in the name of dead voters.

Weighing voting-irregularity allegations by Republican Terry Roland, who lost to Ford, a Democrat -- by just 13 votes -- the Senate voted last month to void the election.

But before the Senate took a final vote, U.S. District Court Judge Bernice Donald ruled senators must take care not to invalidate ballots without first giving voters an opportunity to be heard.

"The binder includes copies of property records, vehicle registration information and notes from interviews intended to document that the 13 live outside Dist. 29.

One of the 13 is Ford's nephew, Sir Isaac Ford, 31, whose registered voting address is 12 South Parkway West -- the business address of the Ford Funeral Home. Property records show he and his father, Harold Ford Sr., bought a $311,000 house in 2001 in East Memphis, miles outside Dist. 29. "

I hope this will finally put some of these thugs behind bars.

I hope that more Republican legislators at all levels start fighting back instead of letting the Rats get away with this crime, all the while protesting too much about "voter fraud".

The Rats would never win an election if it weren’t for fraud.

Those Memphis Fords are getting *knighted* now? : )

If "Sir Isaac" is as much of a scumbag as his father, having Sir for a first name is the only way that he'd ever get called "Sir" without it being followed by "you're making a scene" (apologies to Homer Simpson).

One already is behind bars, which is why Ophelia ran. I agree with you, the more of the Ford family that is behind bars the less corruption there will be in Tennessee.

That may very happen soon as well. I have been hearing all day about him having to go testify on someone's behalf for the 8K donation that was given to him. This could be interesting.

I don't know the specifics about TN Law, but doesn't the legislature generally have the right to decide (for any reason) who is allowed to be seated? Separation of powers...

Beats me I'm still confused how this Clinton appointed Judge was involved in the first place.

I have especially enjoyed Mike Fleming's radio show lately, with Ophelia and Willie's predicaments...

Imagine if responsible adults could represent Memphis in the state Senate and in City Hall - people might quit leaving.

I'll tell you how the judge got involved. She's a friend of the Ford family, and the Ford lawyers brought her in.

And as for whether Ophelia gets seated - the state Constitution says the Senate has the right to determine if the elected candidate should be accepted. Of course, they can't just overturn and election, but if this judge keeps meddling, there may be a State/Federal showdown.

Dude, you will want to retract that rash statement. The people you are talking about are almost undoubtedly black. And if you are actually calling for a lynching then you need to be banned. If you are making some generic remark about demanding justice for corrupt officials who refuse to recognize the voters, then you need to seriously, seriously clarify your remarks immediately. FR is not a place for racism and any misinterpretted comments will be used against us all.

Get a rope is a common phrase out west, it would be nice for a little cultural sensitivity, to be shown to us.

Agreed. The price of felonious voting should be made so high that no sane person would dare risk giving up years of his life in prison just for the sake of getting in one extra vote.
