A conservative advocacy group says Americans should rise up and demand that their local newspapers reprint cartoons depicting the Muslim prophet Mohammed.
The cartoons, first published by a Danish newspaper in September and then reprinted in other European newspapers, have prompted rioting in the Muslim world as well as debates about freedom of speech.
"Americans need to see for themselves what has outraged Islamofascists in certain parts of the world," said William Greene, president of the online organization, RightMarch.com.
"Many Christians and Jews have had to endure the satirizing of their own religious figures. It's called the free expression of ideas. We shouldn't apologize for freedom -- we're trying to spread it, and an honest public debate is at the very center of that freedom."
doon = done
nah.....the newspapers only print false stories about Republicans and the Iraq war...
Let's make 'em billboards, if you want a debate!
Oh. I thought you were Scottish... ;)
Seriously, I think it would be great to have a Hagar the Horrible cartoon with Hagar maching on the Muslims...
A crucifix in a jar of urine is okay, but Mohammed with a bomb on his head, well, that's beyond the pale...
When you're actually fighting militant islam on the ground for years as we have been doing, there's really no need to join in a little slap-fight over cartoons. It's the Euros who've been bending over for years who need to show they still have a little manhood left.
D@mn right the U.S. press should print them. Free expression keeps the world honest...and islam hates honesty about itself!
We ought to put them on milk cartons.
If I wasn't working at a downtown Boston law firm, I'd be tempted to wear one on a T-shirt.
I think it is unwise to do that right now.......
Not until we have restocked our army
Given everyone a good 2 weeks of leave/R&R
Targeted the coordinates of what we want to blow up first.
Remember back in the late 80's when the controversial Robert Mapplethorpe exhibit was at the Corcoran Gallery in DC?
My local newspaper (the Mpls StarTribune) wrote your typical pro-NEA editorial column about how important art was to the culture of our nation and that censorship was a bad thing.
A few days later, there was a letter to the editor that dared the StarTribune to print pictures of some of Mapplethorpe's work actually IN the paper! After all, the letter writer said, this is art and everyone should see it.
Needless to say, the StarTribune never published those pictures.
The same sort of thing exists here. The StarTribune loves to push the envelope - especially when it comes to Christians (Catholic, evangeical, etc) or Republicans. I wanna see them push the envelope now!
I'd love to see hollyweird make a movie about the life of Mo. I'm sure the child molestors would love the scenes of him and his NINE YEAR OLD BRIDE. There've been so many movies about Jesus it's time Mo got some more publicity.
My question is, who would play the part of Mo?
I suggest it is imperative that the free world stand up for free speech. Like all wars, this one is fought at home and in the field.
Exactly.
I keep thinking as I watch the news, "Is all of this freaking out really over a few cartoons?" Grow a thicker skin, people.
I can see it now: The Cartoon War.
Don't hold your breath...

Thank you XJar, for understanding my point.
This piece equates not publishing with some kind of milquetoast response. I don't see it that way at all.
Anyway, I saw them several days ago already. Not like they're hard to find, which makes the Islam response pretty silly, when you think of it!
Do you think they would print a cartoon with a Mullah hitting a Dane with a Koran? Do ya' think? If so, would they give it a Pulitzer Prize?
Yes.
It is newsworthy.
You see.. there are large groups of people rioting in sevral countries, burning, killing, and declaring death threats and holy war... All based on these "toons".
For Americans, or anyone, to get context and judge for themselves they have to see what sparked this.
That-- is newsworthy.
Gutless of them.
They're so big at wanting to expose the truth - on their terms.
There's a lot of people out there who haven't seen the pictures. They ought to publish them so readers can decide for themselves.
I wonder if the StarTribune is more afraid of having a car bomb driven right thru the doors of their offices on Portland Avenue in downtown Minneapolis?
