For more than a decade, the youth-and-civics group Rock the Vote has been the coolest kid on the political playground.
Founded in Los Angeles in 1990 with the goal of politically empowering the MTV generation, Rock the Vote quickly became a cause celebre among Democratic and entertainment power brokers. At rock concerts, on college campuses and with ads featuring a near-naked Madonna, the group helped register millions of young voters.
But as it moves into its 16th year, Rock the Vote itself is being rocked by crisis.
Saddled with about $700,000 in debt, the group has cut its staff from more than 20 people in 2004 to just two today. Its president, who left last summer amid disagreement about the organization's direction, has yet to be replaced. And last month, Rock the Vote was sued for the second time in just eight months.

The Bong vote really came through for Gore and Kerry. LOL!
Vote or die? LOL
The biggest problem they face is apathy, or....whatever.
Funny
Incomplete sentence. Their goal was and is to persuade dummy teens and college students to vote for leftists.
They forgot the "vote" and concentrated on the "rock."
I registered to vote through Rock The Vote at Lollapaloza when Metallica Headlined it. I specifically waited till this concert to register after I moved to NC in hopes that it would annoy them that they registered a republican voter.
18-year-olds have the worse voting record.
19-year-olds have the second worse voting record.
20-year-olds have the third worse voting record.
21-year-olds have the next worse voting record.
I'm glad that the oldsters have the best voting record. Older voters run the country and have, coincidentally, the most maturity and life experiences.
My thanks to the young voters, all 10 of them, for voting. They are shining examples.
Bwhahahaha!
Good on you!
You can BET they were annoyed. Lol.
P!ss Diddy has 700K worth of bling on just his left hand.
"The Bong vote really came through for Gore and Kerry. LOL!"
Too stoned to find their polling places! Oh, yea, I forgot -- they were disenfranchised -- that E-V-I-L Karl Rove and Diebold!
I think the numbers work out to about $15,000.00 per vote. Another success story for the democrats. Thank gawd for the dead voting, otherwise, they wouldn't stand a chance.
They are also insatiably greedy. Why do you think they STILL have SS, Medicare and now free drugs?
The "Greatest Generation" should surrender the title.
Well, I got my registration cards shortly there after, so they did the right thing and processed it.
Funny, I thought it was dead people, at least in Democrat precincts.
Let Puffy or P Diddy or Piddly or whateverhisnameisnow help 'em out. His "Vote or Die" campaign was so successful. I forget, did they die yet?
