LITHONIA, Ga. - Shivering in near-freezing temperatures, thousands of people waited hours in line Tuesday for one last chance to say goodbye to Coretta Scott King before her funeral.
"There's one word to describe going to go see Coretta historic. It's good to finally see her at peace," said Robert Jackson, a 34-year-old financial consultant from Atlanta whose 10-year-old daughter, Ebony, persuaded him to take her to the visitation.
The lines had already started forming by 3 a.m. By the time the doors opened at 6:30 a.m., people toward the end were warned that if they stayed in line they likely wouldn't get into the funeral because of long lines that were already forming there.
An estimated 10,000 people, including four U.S. presidents, were expected to attend the midday funeral at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where King's daughter Bernice is a minister.
I am sure her audience recognizes scripture, whether the public at large does or not.
We may think she did a crappy job but the audience did NOT.. they continue to think she is a goddess & took time out of her busy life to be with them.. And again she becomes the heroine of standing by "her man"...
I'll bring lots of beer and asparagus.
I seem to remember his father saying something about character when he ran against Clinton. :-)
Thankfully, 43's apple didn't fall far from 41' tree...
Thanks. I turned it on when the idiot who spoke right before Carter was up. Hopefully they will show some of the President later so I can hear what he said.
W did speak and he was great. Far more gracious than Prez Peanut and the Impeached One.
W's class came through.
I have no doubt that when it ends he will smell out the first available camera.
I read that she had ovarian cancer and she went to get alternative medicine/therapy for it
just found the thread
My reaction to Carter dissing the President is a good thing. His son is running for Senator in Nevada. A smart republican can use the snub as a campaign ad..he's the son of this man, showing pictures of Carter shaking hands with Castro, Arafat, Chavez but dissing the president of the U.S.
I don't think George HW would want to spend any time with Carter. As much as I detested Wild Willy- in my estimation he doesn't come close to the mean spirit shown by Carter.
I'm not sure either. Maybe that old saying of not becoming like them or something. He has no time to waste on being spiteful and angry.
I'm in Atlanta and every friggin tv station is showing this political rally. I called two stations and voiced my complaint. One receptionist thought I was calling in to complain about the soaps not being on tv. lol
Mr. Peanut's son Jack is as dull and boring as his father.
It all repeats on C-SPAN at 8 pm eastern tonight; they never show anything just once.
Interesting that Malcolm X's daughter is speaking now; I guess a lot of water has gone under the bridge since Malcolm X treated Martin Luther King so slightingly back in the 60s.
Carter only shakes hands with world leaders who are sworn enemies of the USA.
I guess desperate times call for desperate measures. The guy that runs the place is on the run. He was unable to get a medical license in the states so he operates this place in Mexico.
Carter continues to show his pettiness, busyness, and unalterated meanness.
