4 U.S. Presidents Expected at King Funeral (Live Thread)

LITHONIA, Ga. - Shivering in near-freezing temperatures, thousands of people waited hours in line Tuesday for one last chance to say goodbye to Coretta Scott King before her funeral.

"There's one word to describe going to go see Coretta — historic. It's good to finally see her at peace," said Robert Jackson, a 34-year-old financial consultant from Atlanta whose 10-year-old daughter, Ebony, persuaded him to take her to the visitation.

The lines had already started forming by 3 a.m. By the time the doors opened at 6:30 a.m., people toward the end were warned that if they stayed in line they likely wouldn't get into the funeral because of long lines that were already forming there.

An estimated 10,000 people, including four U.S. presidents, were expected to attend the midday funeral at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where King's daughter Bernice is a minister.

I turned it over just as he was talking about Carter not shaking hands with Bush.

And now he's just said we saw a political torch passed today -- and he gave a sort of nod of the head, like "You all know what I'm talking about."

This is funny as heck. It's funny watching all these decrepit, old, antique leftist goobers flailing around like as though they still had credibility in this world.

They act this way because they are without power

Yep. I got it. Her stentorian voice related the marriage and hardships of the Kings...which sounded like her own. She is shameless and using this FUNERAL to advance her own political ambition is beneath contempt.

Matthews can be pretty obnoxious and obviously leans left, but I think he is much more fair than a majority of liberal commentators.

He said basically what we have been saying ! Chided Carter...said they were turning this into a Welstone deal...Carter walked right past Pres. Bush and Laura. And he said it as it was WRONG !..And why were the Dems doing it.

They are talking about just that now.

He also talked about Clinton Hillary was going to carry on HIS TORCH. omg.....This is at least a very good picture of the hypocrisy in this nation.

Some BROTHER our Pres. has, huh ?

But Chrissy's guests have defended that this turned political because MLK was all about politics

Wellstone was all about politics too. His funeral ended up losing the dems the MN Senate seat

Why couldn't the family have just given her a small and private funeral?
