LITHONIA, Ga. - Shivering in near-freezing temperatures, thousands of people waited hours in line Tuesday for one last chance to say goodbye to Coretta Scott King before her funeral.
"There's one word to describe going to go see Coretta historic. It's good to finally see her at peace," said Robert Jackson, a 34-year-old financial consultant from Atlanta whose 10-year-old daughter, Ebony, persuaded him to take her to the visitation.
The lines had already started forming by 3 a.m. By the time the doors opened at 6:30 a.m., people toward the end were warned that if they stayed in line they likely wouldn't get into the funeral because of long lines that were already forming there.
An estimated 10,000 people, including four U.S. presidents, were expected to attend the midday funeral at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, where King's daughter Bernice is a minister.
I figured this would happen...because this is what happened at the Rosa Parks funeral...one after another got up and bashed Bush...as well as everyone else that might be right of Jesse Jackson...
Also...this is about the 3rd or 4th service...so I am sure the "niceties" have been said so many times...they using their political stuff for TV.
That's because she is; nearly 80 now.
Or you'll do..... what?
I know. In my best southern accent, Just daaaayyyuummmmm....
(Actually, I should have started a "pool" - how long into this 6 hour + DNC commercial would it take for the Dims and race pimps to go "wellstone")
Lowery criticized Coretta during the 70's for promoting a "cult of personality" of her late husband over other the contributions of other civil rights leaders. He also criticized the King family for trying to get a new trial for James Earl Ray.
Yeah, but that was the Bear. That was different.
Harry Bellefonta ??
Turn it off
Thanks for the ping!
President Bush and Laura, are the vision of dignity sitting on stage just taking it..one right after another...slamming him.
Dignity? They don't know crap about dignity.
sw
Almost exactly four years after the "original" one...the Dims are the definiton of "insane"...
I won't listen to the creeps. I wish President Bush and our lovely Laura would excuse themselves and LEAVE. I knew this crap was gonna happen.
Why is this crap on TV and why did Bush go? The main-stream black community never fails to embarrass itself at any event, even at the funeral of one of its so-called great leaders. Too bad black people do not live Dr. King's message. I don't remember him telling people to murder each other, and to be spiteful to white people. I wish my tax money had not paid for all of those ex-Presidents to showup for this race baiting and grand standing.
Jimmy Carter up now
You know they can't do that. They look perfectly at ease. If they can take it in person, you certainly can on a message board. Jimmy Carter's up now.
Oh god..
Why is he talking about HIMSELF?
I haven't turned it on, because I knew sooner rather than later this whole funeral would take a hard left turn into politics. Because you know when you've got the glare of the national media attending, that's when politics start mucking up a funeral such as this.
