"I think what you're seeing is the Republicans become the Dems of old, and we Conservatives being forced out to become our own entity.

No argument about the road the Republican Party has taken. It sickens me. But that doesn't disprove my contention. Let me express it this way:

The Republicans become the Big Government party as the Democrats become the leftist/socialist party. Sound about right? Well, it's still true that being leftist/socialist will only garner allegiance from a comparatively small percentage of the voting public. That means the Democrats are in danger of becoming marginalized.

The same can be said of a 'Conservative' party. If that were to happen, they too could be marginalized by the comparatively lower percentage of allegiance they'd enjoy. That's why I am, and will continue to be, a supporter of our 2 party system. While we may not always like the way 'our' party votes, or leans, there is strength in numbers. It is then up to us to insure our party maintains the strengths we believe in.

I'm sorry, but I do not see the Republican Party as being anywhere near marginalized as the Democrats are in danger of becoming. In my view there's still hope. And with that hope, there's always room for giving the Democrats one last chance before the roof caves in.

True. But remember, a republican party that swings left and the emergence of a 'conservative' party still represent acceptable policies to the majority of Americans. BUT, the far left tilt of the dems represents a policy base that just cannot resonate with the vast majority.

These divisions have been around for years but as long as the dems held political power, they needn't be proclaimed. Since the dems are out of power, the split in their ranks becomes obvious.

Agreed. I think I'm being objective - more or less - in seeing that the Rats are currently without leadership, without much of a platform or ideas (except the old ones which have already been accomplished), or much of a rational consituency.

What do they really stand for these days? Beats me.

My father who has long involvement in Republican politics said there used to be something respectable about Democrats, even if one disagreed with their ideas. Opponents could usually be civil with one another. Not now.

It is worrisome that Rats are now being driven by the DUmmies and Hollywierdos. Not only is much of their hysterical political belief logically ungrounded and without any philosophical merit, much of America strongly disagrees with it. Yelling and getting "outraged" is not a political platform.

Right. Elections are about comparative choices not absolutes. Lesser of the evils.

I don't disagree with you except to say i think many of the mainstream Dems (the ones who held their nose for Kerry) would be more in line to support what the Republicans are becoming. I think the Conservative Party is who we are now.
I hope I'm wrong and we nominate a George Allen type candidate in '08, and we develop a backbone in the senate, but based on our record over the last few years, I'm not optimistic.
Anyway, I still believe we will have essentially a 2 party system, just the names will change, and the modern day Dems will be relegated to the status of the Greens. What was the conservative movement in the Republican Party steps out of the McCain / Snow shadow to prove we are the real majority in the country.
I think this will happen some years forward, but it seems inevitable.
