Given your handle, as well as your comments, I'm willing to go out on a limb and guess that you're a pacifist - i.e. that peace is your ultimate value.
I'm curious, how many of your other values (freedom for example), are you willing to fight for? Or would you easily settle for peaceful subjugation?
I was referring to the modern age. Every group has committed some sort of atrocity at some point in time. But terrorism today is brought to us nearly exclusively by two groups: islamofascists and secular leftists. That's not to say all or even most members of either group are terrorists, but 99% of terrorists are members of one or the other.
Here is the cartoon series

The problem you have with your comparison is that it is not happening today and every non-Christian is not a witch so Christianity is not a threat to the world unlike islam who is to kill if the can not convert every non-muslim.
By springtime, many people were half mad from it, having come to the bottom of their stores.
Could it be any easier to understand?
The problem is that Islam is a death cult who gathers around a meteor every year, trample themselves in the process, and generaly call for war against every human being who doesn't subscribe to their beliefs.......
Geez Moderator, I always miss the good stuff............
I've got some great ideas for dealing with the moon rock cult.......let's start with that loudmouth in Iran; next time he shows his face, let a Hellfire bearing Predator drone take him out much like we would bin-Laden or any other terrorist. This guy is going to start WWIII....
If viruses didn't mutate, I'd suggest we get to work on some strain that targets genetic markers of Muslims..........the ultimate smart bomb; ahhhh.......one can dream.........
Though I might sound a bit Gandhish...I believe in non violent resistance...To fight for freedom in this manner takes a long time, but I truly believe in the long run, the benefits are greater and generally do not leave behind a legacy of hatred...I am completely against these so-called religious experts, clerics who preach that they have direct orders from Allah, God, Yaweh, Jehovah and all the names that really mean the same thing.I think these clerics are sad little men also hate the "other".
Your hatred of Muslims is something I have had to live with forever...Been told the same countless times for no reason except my background. When I was in high school, such comments used to piss me off but then I started to feel sorry for those ignorant enough to voice such prejudices. At first, you bet I wanted to kick their a...These same people could not understand that I wanted to excel at school, that I actually had lots of friends and weirder still, that I made cheerleading captain. So, hateful post-its on my locker were the norm but honestly, I just tore them up because it started to look simply stupid in my view. Other things that happened: car tires suddenly down, essays suddenly disappeared.
Strangely enough, later on, these racists got into tons of trouble and not because of me...because their outlook on anyone slightly different drove them to fail in school and also get into trouble with the law. I never once reported any of them in school and never let these idiots intimidate me.
PS: Last year, I bumped into a girl who hated me for above, said hello, and sure enough, got the same response as back in school...sadly she never evolved and ended up marrying a racist loser she hung out with in school and who beats her regularly for being a woman and for not buying enough beer.
Conclusion: stick us all in camps...or better yet, ship us all of to some hostile & barren planet..this way, we become an extinct species and you are one happy camper.
I can understand your point in referring to the modern age. True, in today´s world islamic extremists are definitely in center stage.
it seems the following have taken the back seat:
FARC
Aum Shinrikyo
CIRA
ETA
GRAPO
JRA
Rote Armee Faktion
Kahane Chai
LTTE
ELN
the list goes on & on.. but what worries me sometimes is that, with so much focus of manpower & resources on the islamic extremists, i often wonder what other groups are up to..
i forgot to mention something else..fighting for freedom, democracy and other core values is something that can be also accomplished through fair and just international forums as well as media outlets.
No matter how flawed organizations such as the UN, the International Court at The Hague etc. , it is important that we not lose faith in them because although, they are not perfect (but are run by normal human beings who are also not perfect), they are a still equipped with resources and visibility to open dialogue. A much better alternative to continously hurting each other through rhetoric and violence which only begets more and more violence and chaos.
and those kids who got into trouble: they were from the "perfect" families: all white, perfect teeth, all cherubs, picket fences, parents from professional backgrounds, and yes, i can´t forget the perfect car and dog;)Since this was a Christian School I attended, they also all went to church regularly, prayed and confessed.
the best part: during the Christmas Pageant, they freaked when I was chosen to play the Virgin Mary (lucky draw, by the way) and were so against it and even went so far as to try to get me out of it.
when we had debates, many were also unaccepting of the simple facts of religious texts such as the Bible, Koran, and Talmud that ultimately, what unites everyone (Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Shinto, etc.)is far greater than what divides. An if we really read and understand these texts, we see that the underlying message is one of simple human decency.
but man interprets texts and in doing so, sometimes interprets them in a way that perverts the original meaning and advances his own warped beliefs.
I beg to differ, Islam and Christianity have extremely similar messages. The only difference clear to me is: Christians believe in the Holy Trinity:the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Muslims believe in Jesus as God´s (Allah, Yaweh) messenger but not in the Trinity. Islam derives alot from the Judeo-Christian heritage except for this point. Same applies to Muslims´ belief in the Angels, Mary, Abraham, Moses, Noah and all the monotheistic prophets. They are respected and believed in in Islamic theology.
Again, if we look closely and past our predetermined or acquired views, we do realize that the similarities clearly and greatly outweigh the differences.
and ps: trust me, I also have attended 12 years of Mass.
I have no faith at all in most international organization - least of all in the UN.
It has become an incredibly putrid organization...
An organization where the majority of memebers openly flaunt its human right charter, an organization that includes Libya and Syria in its human rights council, an organization that played footsy with Sadaam in the largest scandal ever while watching children die, an organization with no backbone that passes resolution upon resolution and never acts on them, an organization that allows millions to die in Rhwanda... need I go on?
If there are values that you hold dear you better be ready to defend them yourself... delegating that to some bureaucracy with no visceral attachment to them is a sure way to lose them.
As for fair and just international forums - I don't know of any, and there will never be any - it is not in our nature.
Whether you like it or not, it will always be "survival of the fittest" and "fittest" will always be the one that survives by whatever means (and not always force!). Sometimes we coat our battles with veneers of civility, but if you scratch a little you will still see a battle.
Your weapon of choice happens to be "peaceful" civil disobedience - it sometimes works in a free democracy - try that in a crazed muslim autocracy and see how far that strategy will get you.
