There's a whole lot that happened today; here's a brief summary:
- Martin offically resigned, and Stephen Harper was sworn in this morning as Canada's 22nd Prime Minister;
- David Emerson, recently re-elected as a Liberal MP in Vancouver, defected to the Tories and is now part of the new cabinet. Ironically, just after reelection he promised to be "Stephen Harper's worst enemy" in Parliament;
- Harper pulled an old Trudeau trick, by naming to cabinet an unelected friend he appoints to the Senate;
- We're still burning over one of Paul Martin's last lies: months ago, the government swore that David Dingwall - longtime Chretien hack and former minister - had quit his post voluntarily. Now we find out he was actually fired, meaning not only did the government lie, but he can collect $400K from the taxpayer - and that payment was made Jan. 20th, 3 days before the election. Some now say that cost the Tories a majority.
- As promised, child-care payments will be mailed out starting July.
Just a quick summary, see NP link above for more detail.

It cost the Tories a majority, in that had the public have known the liberals had lied and payed off the bugger before the election, There wouldn't be a liberal left on the bench. I don't think that's true however. There is a base in Ontario that will vote liberal no matter how corrupt they are. No different than the left in the USA.

Harpers a good man. Smart, and cautious.
I love how he stole a seat right off the bat. That was a slap in the face to Stronach as well. Stealing a liberal "fighter". LMAO! they are complaining to the ethics committee over that if you can believe it.

He is entitled to entitlements and I hope his lawyer costs for that bit of sophistry leave him with a bigger debt than the whole Liberal Party.

Who says he won't be? He's nothing more than a self-confessed Lib mole.

There's nothing that prevents party switching. A lot of Democrats in the States have done it. As for the idea David Emerson should resign, I don't recall Belinda Stronach vacating her seat when she crossed the House and her constituents forgave her when they re-elected her last month. So I don't see why Emerson's constituents shouldn't entertain surprise at his wanting to serve them where he thought best. The game is called politics and Stephen Harper is masterful at it.

I just heard Belinda on CBC Radio bleating about the unethical Harper and the opportunist Emerson.
Unlike Emerson, "I took a stand on principle", according to the former Minister for Complex Files.
The interviewer let her run her mouth for over 5 minutes.

I'm not as happy as some of you guys appear to be about allowing David
Emerson into the Conservative Party (let alone Cabinet).
Emerson is clearly an opportunist and unprincipled.
I'd prefer Harper maintain his integrity and tell Emerson
to go F%$k himself..

Barf! This coming from one of Clinton's whores? Belinda has so much principle that her daddy had to turf her from his company before she did any more damage.

I am not sure how Harper can guarantee those checks. Isn't his plan dependent on a vote in Parliament?
