Posted on 02/06/2006 6:08:53 AM PST by ken5050
Good Monday morning, once again, fellow political jinkies. The NFL season may be over, but the political season inside the Beltway is 24/7/365. So join us, if you can, as those wacky Dems on the Senate Judiciary committee reprise their pitiful efforts to once again smear President Bush and score political points..

Gonzales has my vote, just based on the power of his statements this morning. He is beating them up with the facts.

The AG is
NOT going to give the Democrats the answers they wish to hear but he is going to give them a lesson in the law.
To coin a phrase, "The AG has his stuff together".
The Democrats are unarmed and will be fighting with Kos and DU talking points. Shameful.

Gonzales: Under FISA, each emergency authorization must be followed up with documentation within 72 days. A judge must review, consider and approve the applications.
All the steps take time. AQ does not wait.
While FISA is appropriate for general foreign intel collection, it's not nimble enough against AQ. We can't demand that our soldiers be lawyers on the battlefield, we can't afford to impose layers of lawyers on intel officers who are tracking secretive AQ operatives in real time.
The program is necessary, lawful and respect civil liberties. It is within the mainstream of what other presidents have authorized. Congress has been briefed on the details. To end the program now would give room to our enemy for operations within our borders.

The only alternative is for OBL to come before Congress and give them his plans so THEY can decide if POTUS is authorized to act. I really hate dems. Dangerous fools with microphones.

Slapping them about leaking the program in the first place.
He just handed them their @ss!

Specter: Before proceeding to 10 minute rounds for each Senator, let me request that you make your answers as brief as possible and we'll make our questions as brief and pointed as each senator sees appropriate. (Yeah - like that will happen)
