LIVE THREAD: SJC hearing on the NSA surveilance program - C-span 1; 9:30 am EST

Posted on 02/06/2006 6:08:53 AM PST by ken5050

Good Monday morning, once again, fellow political jinkies. The NFL season may be over, but the political season inside the Beltway is 24/7/365. So join us, if you can, as those wacky Dems on the Senate Judiciary committee reprise their pitiful efforts to once again smear President Bush and score political points..

Based on what you're read and what you know, do you believe the president has acted within the law?

I think that telling a denied target is in the statute.

I heard Gonzales say that this NSA domestic to foreign calls surveillance was not claimed under the FISA law, not meant to override the FISA law.. but the President's authority claimed was by the authorization given by Congress to fight Al Queda.

The argument that I find lame is the one that aims to show thatteh surveillance in question is within the boundaries expressed in FISA, because FISA says "or other authorization," and the AUMF is that "other authorization."

What's the deal with Brownback and Lindsey? Obviously the war powers act passed by Congress is a valid and the strongest argument by the AG. I wish Gonzales would simply say "We can't trust many members of the Senate" and slowly remind Leahy of his leaking history. Just put it all on the table!!

Is it true that Lindsey is homosexual?

Let this hearing keep going because the more they talk the more America understands that President Bush is fighting to Protect Americans and DinocRats are fighting to Protect Al Queda!

"I think the Bush Administration doesn't trust the FISA court much.."

I think this is the main reason we are listening to these hearings. I really think something is/was up with the FISA court and at least one of its judges. It could be why JR went to the NYT.

Especially if any of the judges have treasonous friends.

That Clinton FISA judge who quit comes to mind.

To many people in fly over country favor us listening into comms from AQ.

Two weeks ago I would have agreed however listening to how the tide has changed with polls now showing 46% of the public is concerned, it's obvious the MSM has effectively changed minds with their constant harping. Couple that with some RINOs wringing their hands (but not before reading the new polls) and we have people now paying attention.

When is cocktail hour?

Senator Ted Kennedy (C) (D-MA) speaks with Senate Judiciary Committee ranking Democrat Pat Leahy (R) (D-VT) and committee chairman Arlen Specter (R-PA) during a hearing on Capitol Hill about domestic eavesdropping, in Washington February 6, 2006. Giving his testimony, U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales defended the Bush administration's domestic eavesdropping program as an indispensable tool to protect the country from terrorism, denying accusations the White House broke the law. I think the Bush Administration doesn't trust the FISA court much.

What Gonzales just said sure indicates that.

AFAIK, there are ZERO leaks attributed to a FISA court, or to any court that has had opportunity to review FISA warrants. If the courts aren't leakers, Gonzales should not suggest in public that they would be, given the opportunity.
