One inmate was killed and nearly 50 were injured in a race riot Saturday afternoon at North County Correctional Facility in Castaic that may have been sparked by a feud between rival gang members, authorities said. The melee which was quelled in about an hour broke out around 3:20 p.m., and was contained primarily to two dormitory areas at the prison, the population of which is approximately 60 percent Latino and 30 percent black, said Sheriff Lee Baca.................... In order to maintain some semblance of order, he said as of Saturday he was segregating all black and Latino inmates, flying in the face of a February 2005 U.S. Supreme Court ruling preventing the practice. Damn, why'd they have to interrupt them?

CW II ping. One of the main themes of Tom Chittum's book is that wars inevitably turn racial. That is shown out in these riots. It is interesting that there is no mention of white (or asian) inmates. One assumes there are many whites, and at least a few asians. Are they just ignored in these riots.

This is not about "war". It is about rioting prison convicts.
It's appears to be about effective conflict management by qualified professional administrators who have put safety and protection of prisoner rights first and not compromising administrative priorities due to militant leftist external pressures.
As "foriegn" all this may be to the average citizen, these assurances that our major criminal institutions are in the hands of experienced and capable management should be a welcome message.
Let the ACLU send "peacekeepers" into every prison wearing referees shirts.
They can hold the gangs apart with their bodies.
