The CIA Leak: Plame Was Still Covert
Newsweek ^ | Feb 13, 2006 | Michael Isikoff

Posted on 02/05/2006 7:12:06 PM PST by Tyche

Feb. 13, 2006 issue - Newly released court papers could put holes in the defense of Dick Cheney's former chief of staff, I. Lewis (Scooter) Libby, in the Valerie Plame leak case. Lawyers for Libby, and White House allies, have repeatedly questioned whether Plame, the wife of White House critic Joe Wilson, really had covert status when she was outed to the media in July 2003. But special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald found that Plame had indeed done "covert work overseas" on counterproliferation matters in the past five years, and the CIA "was making specific efforts to conceal" her identity, according to newly released portions of a judge's opinion. (A CIA spokesman at the time is quoted as saying Plame was "unlikely" to take further trips overseas, though.) Fitzgerald concluded he could not charge Libby for violating a 1982 law banning the outing of a covert CIA agent; apparently he lacked proof Libby was aware of her covert status when he talked about her three times with New York Times reporter Judith Miller. Fitzgerald did consider charging Libby with violating the so-called Espionage Act, which prohibits the disclosure of "national defense information," the papers show; he ended up indicting Libby for lying about when and from whom he learned about Plame.

Looks to me like the 'domestic eavesdropping' (which isn't domestic in the slightest) story has fallen on it's face, so the LSM has to dredge up this old nag for some further flogging. The desperation is setting in.

I think everytime they mention Plames husband in an article it should be Joe "Do you know who my wife is?" Wilson.

Libby's attorney will prove someone at CIA changed her personnel status after the CIA pushed for an investigation.

Fitz should be disbarred for incompetence

All the MSM touting of how 'incredibly detailed' Mr Anal Prosecutor was and yet the bumbling fool didn't find out the first fact he should have determined on day one. Was Plame convert?

The court papers that Isakoff is referring to were written by Judge Tatel..."including Clinton appointee David S. Tatel, considered one of the most liberal voices on the court."

Leave it to Newsweek and Spikey to try to pull Fitz' onions out of the fire. Maybe they should be a prosecutor.

If you get in your car in Chevy Chase every day and drive down the GW Parkway to your office at CIA headquarters at Langley, you are not a covert agent.

" If this is true, say "So long, Scooter""

It's not, so you can relax. Fitz provided no evidence, the liberal judge Tatel took Fitz's word. Fitz, the same guy who said Libby was the first to tell a reporter about Plane...too bad Fitz was proven wrong by Bob Woodward.

Isn't Isikoff the joker who accused our side of flushing the poor Gitmo "detainees" Korans down the toilet? The boy writes like he on drugs all the time.

If she was really covert then the CIA really sucks as far as creating cover. Hell, you have to do more then just make up a corporate name.

Driving to CIA headquarters at Langley 5 days a week is COVERT? I obviously am not privy to the new CIA covert operations underway!! Guess I don't have a need to know. And how about when Valerie Plame Wilson made a political contribution and listed her employer as Brewster Jennings? Libs are Loons.
