This whole incident is a perfect illustration of why the whole Muslim world sickens me. These people literally have nothing better to do than go on rampages about cartoons published thousands of miles away. Do you think they'd be doing this if they had a real economy or (gasp!) JOBS TO GO TO? People who actually work for a living and are trying to do something PRODUCTIVE WITH THEIR LIVES have bigger fish to fry. If you take away oil, the entire Arab world has a GNP smaller than Spain's. The only thing the Arab world has to offer the rest of us is their impotent outrage--it is their coin of the realm and their #1 export. Frankly, I think all the Western leaders should hold a news conference and tell them (a) we don't give a good God damn about their outrage and (b) grow up.
This is terrible one does not deal with a rabid dog!

Yes, but they are threatening something that liberals hold dear. Freedom of speech. Liberals don't like being told that they can't say, draw, paint, print or write something and when this happens they become defensive. It has been really interesting watching the liberal press deal with this conflict.

The Islamic world could never deal with the cancellation of My So Called Life after a mere 19 episodes. Not being able to follow the life of Angela Chase as she grew into a woman has left them spiritually shattered.
Don't knock it until you've tried it . . . they're expensive enough for adults, anyway.

Some fanatics will start picking off individual Danes, doesn't matter if they had nothing to do with the cartoons. They don't even need an excuse.
These fanatics are getting otherwise tolerant people upset and disgusted with them. Wouldn't you think they would rather be respected rather than threatening to cut people up?
Before 9/11, I knew they were different, but thought the whackjobs were just fringe groups and didn't harbor any ill will against them. Now I wonder if they aren't almost all like that, bloodthirsty, manipulative lunatics.
I don't have to teach the younger generations in my family anything about them. They figured it all out for themselves, and not just because of 9/11. A 21-year-old relative noticed they are control freaks about their women.
Yes, I considered that and yes, there are plenty of posters on DU who seem to be reluctantly taking the Muslims' side on this only because their hatred for America blinds them to Muslim barbarity. But there are plenty of posters over in DUmmieland whose replies wouldn't sound at all out of place here. I daresay those replies make up the majority on the threads I have read.
Ultimately, I think the liberal foundation of tolerance and multiculturalism will only go so far until it reaches the point where they'll tolerate any group *except* Muslims (and Baptists --and they'll prefer Baptists to Muslims only because Baptists don't behead people). Surely they can't all be that stupid. They have nothing in common with Islamic fanatics. There is no solidarity. Islam is an affront to everything that liberals hold dear. It is starting to happen in Europe where liberal values are far more entrenched than they are here.
