He doesn't have to have it over the goal when he comes down. Once the ball breaks the plane it's a TOUCHDOWN....play over.

Had that happened in this case, the linesman would have run along the goal line signaling touchdown. He did not. He did not signal a touchdown until after Roethlisberger was on the ground, when he pulled the ball from underneath him and pushed it over the goal line.

I have no dog in this fight. But that was no touchdown.

Many is the time line refs have a delayed reaction on making a call -- they are human. The delay means nothing.

I have no dog in this fight. But that was no touchdown.

The replay says otherwise. We have had some folks with huge TVs and TIVOs who have confirmed it broke the plane when he was in the air. That is the rule.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one who noticed the TD call coming late in the play (see my post 1838).

Someone mentioned that having the ball land in the endzone will put an end to questionable calls, and that's a good solution. There's no way a human can make such a close call as 'breaking the plane' in cases like this.
