Well I would love to see Boehner quit his unhealthy smoking habit. we need him down the road and in charge, not in intensive care from a heart attack or stroke cause by clogged arteries.

I always think that if I was not an only child I would have had less responsibility with my parents but then I look at my friend who has 5 brothers and she is the one everything falls to.

It's going to be an interesting 10 years, and someone in Congress needs to start taking the lead in thinking these issues through and how we're going to pay the bills going forward.

Didn't I see the entire Dim contingent rise up out of their seats with a shout of approval for shooting down the GWB Social Security reform plan, during the SOTU speech? Indeed there is going to be a massive transfer of wealth over the coming decade and I am not sure everyone is ready for this.

From what I have read I agree...with the Nordic countries a close second.

The bad thing is that the only growth in population is the Muslims, and they don't consider themselves European. "Old" Europe is fixing to pay a horrible price for their foolishness of the last forty years.

If they escape civil war, it will be a miracle.

You should have kept it on because Boehner used velvet covered brass knuckles on that has been Russert. He literally had an answer and good answer for everything. Russert was mostly stymied, but that never stopped him yet. You could say the Sky was blue and he would say "but don't you think that Tom Delay tried to change the color to Gray". Clueless old fat fool.

"Will Congress reign in Spending"

&&&&

That is a headline worthy of a mention on Taranto's webpage on Opinion Journal.

Congressmen definitely consider themselves to be reigning royalty!

I agree and I fear it in my own country or at least some form of riots.

I can see a situation where the only growth in the population will be the underclass (hate the term but it does explain the type of people) and the Muslims, Hindu's and seeks, this is brewing for confrontation along the road.

Just back for a second; I did not mean to imply the president hasn't taken the lead on this matter (SS). But he is rightfully more concentrated on other matters re the WOT. It will take someone in Congress to take the lead on this, imo.

In some instances People that are 80 or older on a fixed income will end up paying more if they choose this Medicare Benefit, and that is bizarre.

It's pretty surprising to people when they find this out.

sometimes it just depends on the Parents, but having 7 Younger brothers and sisters and a goof off older Sister and Brother made my oldest brother and I lose a lot of the fun others had. We did have a great deal, but it was somewhat curtailed because of the responsibility of caring for others, and keeping the little varmints out of trouble and breathing.

Yes you did, and that is exactly why the have lost so many elections. No plan except make sure the 'Pubs plan doesn't work.

Excellent post Starwise--President has absolute authority to receive sensitive info on a nat. security basis. Anyone who argues with that is quibbling about methodology instead of concern about nat. security,IMHO.

One of my teachers insulted me once by accusing me of acting like an only child. I guess I wasn't 'playing well with others" or something. Her point went right over my head. Perhaps, not 'getting' messages from others" was my problem!!! I never did know what she meant to convey, except that it was negative, and I will always remember realizing that I would have hated to be an only child.

Good point...it WOULD be important to get a congresscritter from each state to monitor or participate also...because from what you and I see on c-span...

I get the impression that a HUGH percentage of congresscritters haven't got a clue how their constituents really feel.

I can tell you ....this newest generation is going to be made up of a LOT of "only children"...

Both of my children only have one...and neither couple seem inclined to have more...and a lot of their friends are the same..or going childless altogether.
