Area Muslims React With Tempered Anger--Some Say Depiction Overstepped Liberties [DC]
Washington Post ^ | 2-4-06 | Caryle Murphy

Wearing a brown golf cap against the cold drizzle, Rocky Omary stood outside Walima Cafe in Falls Church, where he and about 50 other men of Middle Eastern descent had just watched the Tunisian soccer team take a drubbing from the Nigerians.

That trouncing was bad enough. But Omary had other, more disturbing, insults on his mind: specifically, the recent publication in European newspapers of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad as a terrorist.

(Nikki Kahn - The Washington Post) "I've been getting a lot of e-mails about it, and I'm distributing them all," said Omary, a Damascus native who sells real estate in Northern Virginia. "There is a limit to freedom. There are 1.2 billion Muslims in the world. Let's have some respect."

A few miles away at the All Dulles Area Muslim Society mosque in Sterling, Zaki Al Barzinji, 16, was equally upset.

"Just because you can say something doesn't mean you should say something," the teenager said. "If somebody showed a picture of the Pope with a bomb on his head, that would cause a great public outcry. Nobody would be talking about freedom of speech."

I would laugh at such an image. And I'm Catholic!

Clearly there are offensive images to Christians, butt the Pope with a bomb on his head wouldn't work for obvious reasons. Muhammed with a bomb on his head, or running out of virgins strikes very close to home. As a terrorist, look at the reaction.

"The only reason these maggots aren't out in the streets protesting and doing what they do over in Europe is because they know for a fact that the great majority of Americans do NOT support their Cult and do see them for what they are.

Let them Protest as is their right, but boys, start getting stupid and rioting and a case of whoopass will be opened up on you so fast it will make your turban spin."

And that wouldn't surprise me if that's one among many reasons the media in the US won't print the cartoons, and why the State Department is being well....itself.

The US still has a quiet simmering about 9/11, any riots of that nature, and while whoop*** gets opened rather quickly from people tired of having the 'Religion of Peace' trying to dictate how others should kow tow, things would soon escalate--people would also start eyeing the media and certain portions of government. Entrenched interests would not want to see that--it would be like taking the control rods out of a nuclear pile.

Talking of the Pope.....

I wonder what Pope John Paul actually DID do? After all there was this fellow:

Mehmet Ali Agca.

Answer: He shot the Pope. He is described as a Turkish Muslim.

What was the reaction- ah well.

There are three septillion cockroaches in the world and I refuse to have respect for them also.

What's your point? A veiled threat? I fear that one as much as I would fear a threat by the cockroaches'!!

They carry signs that say to "massacre those who insult". Well, ask them what they think of Jesus. Do they desire that if they insult and fail to call him the Son of God that they should be killed?

"Magid also called for "constructive civilized dialogue so we avoid a clash of civilizations." As part of that effort, he said he and other area Muslim leaders will meet Monday with the Danish ambassador to Washington."

Just what do you suppose he hopes to accomplish by this, a clamp down on press freedom in Denmark? Prosecution of the newspaper? I trust the Danish ambassador will have these characters thoroughly searched for any combustibles before they are allowed in. I understand the new team sport for Mohammadens is burning down Danish embassies.

Mohammed was a murderer, a thief, a liar and a child raper. Why are they so upset...the pictures could have been a lot worse.

Most of the muzzies could have benefitted from a parochial school education instead of the madrassas.

Classic. This person is clueless, IMO as to what liberty means.
