I still don't see how Guiliani or McCain will win the nomination. There are 30 red states out there. I don't think either will win a single one.

That said, I have another good candidate who has stated he's not running: VP Cheney. I would vote for him before even Jeb Bush. My choices are 1. VP Cheney; 2. Jeb Bush; 3. George Allen.

No anti-abortion evangelical will ever vote for Guiliani. That will prevent his nomination.

I wouldn't exactly call Rudy under the radar. We must've had 20 threads on him since the first of the year.

Sadly, looks seem to trump most everything else, but Rudy was like a 'port in a storm' after 9-11 and I believe Americans can easily be reminded of that time in their lives during 08.

BTW, as a man who is secure in his own sexuality, I'll say it - - I think Rudy is also a handsome dude.

Bush is the only one that had the courage to try and fix the huge entitlement of social security.

Bush has no line item veto power. If it were up to Bush he would drastically fix the budget by fixing social security.

Bush pushed for the 39 billion in budget cuts that just passed that not one dem voted for.

Also remember Clinton wanted a huge health care plan. Clinton wanted to spend through the roof.

Bush has had 7 major hurricanes, 9/11, and two wars.

Bush wants to stop social security growth and medicaid growth.

Bush is great on taking on entitlements. I know you will bring up medicare. But Bush has since been great going after medicaid and social security and not giving in to Kerry's health care fearmongering.

Bush has no line item veto and has been the only one that has been willing to take on social security.

Bush is great at wanting to cut spending by taking on social security entitlement.

Media to Republicans: "Oh gosh we're just dying to know whether you'll nominate Rudy or McCain!!!!!!!"

LOL!

Rudy's not fool enough to think he could win as a Republican. If he's tired of making a fortune in private industry, frankly, he must be as nuts as McCain.

I think if GWB gets 1 more conservative justice the GOP will give Giuliani a chance. I think Rudy with Condi Rice as veep would make the Dems look so pathetic.

Yep. I see him appointing law and orders judges, but he's pro gay rights and pro abortion.

I'd say he;d be a wash.

He was just the mayor of NYC. Why do you think he has one shred more credibility on security matters than any other Republican would ?

Again, why do you think national security is some kind of Giuliani trump card ? This is after all the REPUBLICAN Party.

" No anti-abortion evangelical will ever vote for Guiliani"

Wrong. I'm a anti-abortion evangelical and I'll vote for Giuliani and know many who would do the same.

You may be right about McCain getting the nomination but I think on the other hand you're underestimating his national appeal. I think even if Cheney wanted to run (which he doesn't) the whole health issue would be everyone's concern and talking point. I agree that Allen would be a good candidate - so would Pence. Jeb Bush is my governor and I like him but I think the nation would be too afflicted by "Bush fatigue" for him to get the nomination. I still say that McCain & Giuliani would be unbeatable (at this point). I also don't think that there are as many single-issue (evangelicals) out there as you do whose only concern is abortion. Most of the evangelicals I know are sophisticated enough to consider ALL the issues and many believe that national security is a top priority along with the war on terrorism. After all, abortion is only an issue for the living.

You're right that the Republicans clobber the Dems on national security but the war on terrorism is a vital part of that security. And on terrorism the man who personally was on the ground on 9/11 and demonstrated courage, heroism, and maintained complete self-control and organization was Rudy. Talk about a politician being on the real life (and death!) firing line! He is "America's mayor" and I don't care about scurrilous and petty attacks on his personal life. If we had more pols with his guts we'd be better off.

Rudy looks good from a distance.

But as an ex New Yorker I know that he has a Captain Queeg streak a mile wide. And don't credit Rudy with the uniformed services of NYC doing their jobs. Courage ? Heroism ? He manned the phones. It was the fire fighters who received extreme unction and then shouldered their packs to climb the 80 steps up the North Tower to their deaths who showed courage and heroism. Rudy just took the credit and wrapped himself in their sacrifice.

Rudy guarantees an automatic 3rd party contender who would battle him on social issues.

Precisely. Rudy will not get cultural conservatives and guarantees a conservative third party.

And Rudy has a mean, petty streak a mile wide. There is a certainty about him that he is God's chosen instrument to punish the sinful. Militant self-righteousness looks like leadership from a distance. On closer inspection, he is a campaign gaffe waiting to happen, like the Dean scream.

Wrong. The cultural conservatives are going to look at Hillary and say "while Rudy isn't are favorite, he's 100 times better than Hillary" particularly when Bush replaces Justice Stevens.

And why exactly, should cultural conservatives think they have to settle for a pro gay marriage, pro partial birth abortion, pro illegal immigration cultural liberal in the first place ? Why do you think the Democrats are that invincible ? Why exactly should the GOP think it has to throw away the issues that made it the majority party to 'win' ? Do you think Rockefeller Republicanism is the zeitgeist now ?

Hillary is a candidate whom 51% of the country will not vote for. And that leaves out the DU'ers and KOS types who will almost certainly go for a Green third party candidacy if she is the Democrat candidate. I see no reason to be as panicky and desparate in the face of a Hillary candidacy that I will submit to anything, as you are.
