Why Muslims are so sensitive to images of Prophet being used BASHIR MAAN MUSLIMS hold the Prophet in such high respect and reverence that he is only after God. He is regarded more respectfully than one's parents.

Believers think of him as the prefect human being in the world.

Islam forbids images of anybody. Images are forbidden in the Koran. There are many verses in the Koran which condemn worshipping idols. From that we draw that idols are paintings and pictures, and particularly pictures of the Prophet.

There were no paintings in his life of how he looked. There are descriptions of how he looked and explanations of his facial features, but no pictures. It is regarded as idolatrous.

That is the reason that the Prophet prohibited images in the house.

But the Prophet is more defended because of the respect and reverence that we have for him.

There are some people who say that photographs are acceptable because that is not a painting. They say that a photograph does not come into that category.

But, on the whole, Muslims do not like photographs or idols. Veneration starts from the photographs and causes idolatry.

It will never change because it covers everything. Islam is a way of life. It covers every aspect of human life. There is no room for innovation or changes there. Everything is proscribed.

The best thing is the template of the life of the Prophet.

Everything was written down, it was history. But there is no rigidity, there are no extremes in Islam, no right or left.

Those who protest can protest peacefully. As they have the right to print, so they have the right to protest.

There should not be any violence.

I don't think the pictures should have been published. It only widens the gulf between Islam and the West.

Maybe they don't appreciate the reverence Muslims have for the Prophet. Maybe it was mischievous of them.

No religious faith should be caricatured, because it will create offence.

This is an abuse of the freedom of expression.

Most of the people in Islamic countries are emotional because there is more illiteracy than literacy, and that is the reason why some people go to extremes.

That is why some people take it too far.

That is not good for Islam and not good for them.

I think there must be some sort of understanding between the West and Islam.

It only widens the gulf between Islam and the West.

When the gulf is as big as that between the moon and the Sun, it matters little.

However the Koran specifically limits the number of wives a Muslim man can marry to 4. Yet Muhammad married at least 12 women.

That's four at a time. All they have to do is say "I divorce thee", and wife number four is outa there, and they can marry her replacement. Besides which, there is no limit on how many concubines a man might have.

Osama bin Ugly is the son of one of his father's former wife number 4's, IIRC.

Seems to me that Muslims need to decide what is at the center of their faith: The God, Allah, or the Prophet/Idol, Mohammed.

OK, so how do the Muslims explain their disdain for anyone else and their views / religion / etc?

Like these:

And yet there are a lot of images of Mohammad thru history.

I found the article “Why Muslims are so sensitive” a propaganda piece. No Muslim would ever ask or care “Why we are so upset with them.” It is the Muslim who cannot get along with his neighbor and is in something like 19 of the 20 wars in the world. They want to convert us or kill us, and will not compromise. We need some real men who love western culture telling us to stand up to be proud, do not apologize, and to defend western culture, not the feminized girly men who are afraid of there own shadows.

No, the west needs no lectures on the superior virtue of societies who keep their women in subjection, cut off their clitorises, stone them to death for alleged adultery, throw acid on their faces, or deny the human rights of those considered to belong to lower castes.

Freedom of expression is our western heritage and we must defend it or it will die from totalitarian attacks. It is also much needed in the Islamic world. By defending our values, we are teaching the Islamic world a valuable lesson, we are helping them by submitting their cherished traditions to Enlightenment values.

How can they say islam is peace when they were responsible for and rejoiced after September 11th? There is no such thing as muslim peace especially mohamed the terrorist!

They murdered my son and thousand of others. My son was a peace loving kid with a wife and two little children (1 & 3). How many muslims rioted over the loss of life in this country? The koran is a terrorist document. How many westerners have read the verses of the koran? Maybe people should read some of it before saying it is a peaceful religion.

May muslims never have peace! We need another crusade to rid this world of these vipers!

Fact is, there are numerous depictions of not only people, but the Prophet Muhammed as well, in Muslim literature and art..

Muslims should look into their own history a little better before going off half-cocked.

And yet the “devout” Muslim terrorists have no problem with being photographed and video taped committing horrific crimes. They have no problem carrying large posters of their “heroes” – bin Laden, Ayman al-Zawahiri, et al.

You assume they are interested in logic and reasonableness. They are interested in making you and the West cringe and squirm. They are interested in intimidating the West

Believe me, I assume no such thing..

I know full well what Islam's aim is, and how they intend to acheive it..

I have no delusions about their hypocrisy, either.. ;o)
