Four teachers were seriously injured in a single shooting attack which took place when they were waiting for military officers to escort them home in Krong Pinang district of Yala province.
Jintana Thongpan, Phiradi Phinyo, Pairoj Srimuang, and Anand Sulong, of Ban Lue Mu school, were in a pick-up truck which was parked near their school when gunmen jumped out from the bush and opened fire on them.
The four were taken to a nearby hospital.
In a separate shooting attack, Anand Boonranarak, director of Ban Por Meng school, escaped unhurt. He was driving home from school when a pillion rider tried to gun him down. Mr Anand fired back and two gunmen abandoned their vehicle and fled into a rubber plantation.
Police linked the incidents to the arrest of Ibroheng Gasae on Jan 24. He worked for a militant network.
Police said Mr Ibroheng admitted to brainwashing local youths into joining the separatist movement and telling villagers that government officials had instigated unrest. The attack on the teachers was in retaliation for Mr Ibroheng's arrest, police said.
Also in Yala, Prisana Sangkagul, 14, was shot in the left shoulder by a pillion rider at a tea shop in Muang district.
The attacker used an AK assault rifle. The incident took place in the morning when the tea shop was busy with customers.
Police found 20 spent shells and leaflets saying, ''You caught the innocent, and I will slaughter the innocent'' at the scene.
Meanwhile, police caught the suspected bomber in Wednesday's attack at Cho Airong district hall.
The suspect was arrested for the bombing of the district hall in Narathiwat which killed two people.
The suspect was identified as Sama-e Wa-ngor, 49. Police found spikes and bomb-making components near his house.
The arrest was made after 500 police and military officers searched 11 locations in Cho Airong district.
Another 500-strong force searched Ban Palolubo in Rangae district after receiving a tip-off that it served as a hideout for five insurgent leaders.
However, villagers barred the officers from entering the area, allowing the leaders to escape.
Yes, they called them 'separatists.' Disgusting.
That's nothing new. MSM has been doing that for decades, calling uprizings all over the world "ethnic clashes" and whatnot. It's shouldn't suprize you that Arabia's oil rich princes own a lot of the media.
There is a world wide storm coming...real soon....
However, villagers barred the officers from entering the area, allowing the leaders to escape.
These 'villagers' can stop a 500-man force from entering an area? That makes no sense at all.
I personally think it is impossible to slander islam.
Point well made and agreed.
Beheadings and suicide bombings will increase until cartoons that depict Islam as violent and barbaric are banned!!
Sounds logical to me...what do you think Spock?
Yep. My guess is within the next 60-90 days. It's gonna be ugly.
Let's get it on and get it over with.
Islam is slandered more by its own actions than anything the outside world could apply.
i havent read the article yet but my first geuss when i heard it was a mass shooting and correct me if im wrong but im thinking it was the hary krishnas ?
Yawn. What is wrong with saying they are a militant group? They are. Everyone here in Thailand knows they are muslim so there is no reason to state the obvious.
