I've seen adamant people against smoking rally on the smoking nazi side of things. Very odd.

Well, there's another old FRiend that's arrived in the thread.

The body is the vessel for the soul. The soul may be a vessel for other things, but our body is the living vessel for our souls. Taint the body, taint the soul. Why do you think the scripture talks of gluttony......it taints the soul, yet the soul didn't take a mouthful of food. That's ok. I am at peace with my Lord. Thanks.

I quit 12 years ago but thought I'd tell you that cigs in Japan are one of the few bargains available to consumers here - about $ 2 a pack . In Ukraine a pack of Marlboros costs twice as much as other brands, about 3.75 Hrivnas or about $0.70/pack.
I wish I had filled my suitcase full of them when I left!

No sweat. And I'm kewl with your position.
I don't have to stand in judgement for your life nor do you for mine.
But just remeber, if I'm right..........when lifes judgement does come, you'll be see a computer screen with the name joesbucks as St. Peter says "he told you this"........... and going your saying oh ho, was he right?
:)

I'm right with the Lord Jesus Christ and that's all I need to know. And if I am wrong, just remember: He forgives all sins.
No more talk of religion on this thread please.

I don't smoke. Never have. Both my parents were long-time smokers and both died of lung cancer. One at the age of 72; the other at age 69. Both my sisters smoked for years. One recently quit due to the discovery of four aneurisms in her head, and out-of-control blood pressure. My oldest sister is the only one who still smokes and she's in a nursing home. My brother was a 3 pack a day smoker and dropped dead of his second heart attack at the age of 51. I don't care if other people smoke, but I've noticed that as I've gotten older, I have less desire to be around folks who do. And being retired has provided me that option.
My biggest complaint about the liberals is that they say a woman has a right to do with her body what she wants, and that includes murdering a baby inside her womb. Yet those same liberals, don't believe a woman has the right to smoke herself to death.

As I brought up with SheLion and we have agreed to disagree, social conservatives have the same issues. We're against assisted suicide, yet smoking in most, not all, but most cases is in a way assisted and most definetly self assisted suicide.
Liberals have the same hyprocracy only on different issues. Neither side has the high road.
You would probably be surprised the number of conservatives that would sign anti-smoking legislation right along side with the liberal. Probably if they met in the same room to sign the same petition, they would freak.

You would probably be surprised the number of conservatives that would sign anti-smoking legislation right along side with the liberal. Some of the anti-smoking initiative in Washington State which passed by 63% of the voters, was church based. Conservatives and liberals did indeed join together for a great outcome IMHO.

The votes in Washington and Florida show that conservatives will go to the polls and vote to restrict the imagined rights of smokers
Less than 20% of registered voters showed up in Florida.
Nobody cared.

The Cancer of the Anti-smoking Puritans 7 November 2002
The spreading cancer of the anti-smoking Puritans should be of concern to free men everywhere. As economist Ludwig von Mises cautioned, "Once the principle is admitted that it is the duty of government to protect the individual against his own foolishness, no serious objections can be advanced against further encroachments."

How would you know what conservatives support?
To: SheLion
von Mises was correct.
Alas, there are so many people who can not see the foresst for the trees.

Rolling your own is fine and dandy, that is until they start sin-taxing your rolling machines, papers, and bulk tobacco.
Get ready, it's coming.
