Bush, Annan to meet over reform
Herald Sun ^ | 4 February 2006

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, U.S. President George W. Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will meet in Washington this month to try to pump new life into a flagging U.N. reform campaign that has run into strong opposition from developing nations.

Mr Annan will hold talks with Bush Feb. 13 at the White House and afterward have a working lunch with Rice, U.N. chief spokesman Stephane Dujarric said on Friday.

Management reform at the United Nations has become a top priority of the Bush administration following findings of mismanagement and corruption in the U.N. oil-for-food program for Iraq and extensive waste in U.N. purchasing.

But many of the proposed reforms have met with resistance from developing nations, who fear Washington is using proposed management changes to strengthen its grip on the U.N. agenda and freeze out the concerns of poor countries.

Washington has argued that it deserves a bigger say in the reform agenda as the biggest U.N. dues-payer. As the world's largest economy, the United States picks up the tab for about a quarter of the U.N. budget.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the agenda on Mr Annan's talks with Mr Bush would include human rights, development and humanitarian assistance and matters of international peace and security and as well as U.N. reform.

Mr Dujarric described the talks as routine, noting that Mr Annan travels regularly to meet with heads of state of the major world powers.

Bush and Annan talk regularly by telephone and last met face to face in New York at September's World Summit. They met for talks in Washington in February 2004.

Why bother?

The UN is a corrupt joke of an organization dominated by dictators and despots.

It's well past time for the Free World to bail out.

Fear not, it's a hankie waving to clear the stench of the flatulence created by the UN.

If it is taken as disbelief, then look at the history of our complacence with the UN compared to our compliant attitude in the last 6 years.

My answer: NOT ONE DAMNED PENNY FOR OUR ENEMIES!

We'll start by renting some D-10 Caterpillars and a getting a few miles of Det. cord. After the harbor dredge arrives, we buy everyone a ticket for Brussels and push this obsolete eyesore of a structure into the bay.

How's that for a re-form plan?

UN out of the US. Step one; CHECK!

It would sure be appropriate to see Bush put as much energy and effort into closing our borders and gettting the ILLEGALS OUT OF AMERICA, as he does pandering to the scumbags of the U.N. and worrying about EVERYONE ELSE'S BORDERS.....would that not be something to cheer about????

You may want to do your homework. For instance, do you know where the UN is?

President Bush, Condi and Bolton should serve Annan with a notice that the lease on Manhattan is expired and they vacate the building in three months. And, why not suggest that they move over to a muzzie country!??!

Akin to the doctor doing last-ditch lifesaving measures, knowing the patient is doomed, so he can say he tried everything available to save the patient.

You need someone like John Howard.

He fought the 2001 election largely on illegal immigration (We will decide who comes here, and the circumstances under which they come"). Since then we have few illegals and those we do have are behind bars or deported.

Yes we do, in spades! We did, in times past, like Eisenhower. We now are stuck with pandering elitists with agendas of international grandure that are killing our country demographically, in security, and financially for the taxpayer whose back is being used to fund these utopian schemes of self-servitude and legacy-building.
