A cruise ship carrying 1300 passengers in the Red Sea has been reported disappeared from radar by Egyptian authorities. No other details....
Has there been any concern about a hi-jacking instead? If Al-queda wanted a ferry boat and could hide it after hi-jacking, my question would be, have they checked for shoreline caves, etc where a boat this size could go with that lapse of time given.
"I am trying real hard to find a reason why I should care."
Read the full text of Sec. of Defense's remarks yesterday (2/2/06 at the National Press Club.
He gave an extremely informative speech, discussing the overall war on terror.
He states that changing the environment in the countries which grow terrorists is a long range objective.
Our help in Indonesia after the tsunami improved our image in Indonesia.
I guess if Rummy said it, I can pass it along.
To give everyone an idea about the conditions on this ship, a comparison to Voyager of the Seas:
Specs for Voyager of the Seas:
GROSS TONS: 142,000 approx.
PASSENGERS: 3,100 approx.
TONS PER PASSENGER: 46 approx.
Based on the weight and passenger data, this Egyptian ship had about 5 tons per passenger.
I suppose the showers were communal. Does not sound like this makes for a good cruise.
See post #243. Look at the bulk/weight per passenger compared to a modern, quality cruise ship. You could be right.
Re your note,
My wife just heard that there were 200 cars approx on the ship.
Since a modern cruise ship has about 45 tons per passenger, and this ship only about 5 tons per passenger, throw in the weight of 200 cars and it takes that ratio down even further. What morons! Instead of using physics and other sciences in their regulations, they probably just leave it up to Allah to keep the boat safe.
Odd dream alert:
Last night (or rather, not too long before awakening), I had a strange dream about a ship sinking. I was crossing a low bridge that wasn't much higher than the water. The bridge crossed a bay, or at least that is the sense I had, because to the left was the open water, and to the right and ahead, land. The surroundings were very dry and sand-colored, not green. In the dream I had an impression that this was Jerusalem, but also in the dream I knew that it was not Jerusalem, for obvious geographical reasons.
Anyway...
As I crossed this bridge (it was a thoroughfare, not a small pedestrian bridge), I watched as a large ship very near the bridge "crashed" into the sea. That is, it was hovering/flying above the surface of the water, but then took a nosedive and disappeared. It was white, with the same shape and apparent size as the one pictured. The odd thing about it was that it had no windows. It was featureless.
When the ship hit the water, the ripples started to come across the bridge. First they were only a foot or so high, and I kept walking. Then the ripples became waves, and it was impossible to stand. People and cars were washed away.
However, despite the disappearance of the road beneath the water, I could still see the direction I needed to go (again, Jerusalem but not really Jerusalem). The waves didn't scare me and actually, one came up behind me and propelled me speedily in the right direction (a location I did not take my eyes off of). The wave gave me a nice shove, such that I reached my destination (say, a 1/4 mile further) much quicker than if I had continued by foot.
I was deposited onto the land, at a city street with various shops. I noticed that I was perfectly dry. I then walked toward the one that had a bunch of t-shirts hanging outside. I wanted a Jerusalem t-shirt, and some to send to friends. I told you it was an odd dream. :-)
Then, I awoke to the story of a ship sinking in the Red Sea, which looked very similar to the one in the dream.
Go figure.
I always thought those sort of dreams meant it was time to get up and hit the bathroom -- know what I mean?
Ever had a 'lucid dream'? One where you're asleep and dreaming, and you're conciously aware of it at the time? You can make anything you want happen, just by wishing it into existance.
Those are a blast!
"My guess it was prayer time.. they all faced east, kneeled and it flipped over."
Good point.....this possibility cannot be dismissed lightly.
God really gets pissed when you keep calling Him allah!
that is soooo funny...............but really you should go to your room for that! And all of us who laughed.
bad, so bad.....
So bad in fact, I had to copy it and send it too a friend or two.
Considering that this was Egypt, I doubt anything at all was well maintained.
They are saying that a FIRE started in the middle of the boat, and went on for about an hour when the boat basically "split in two".
The crew said the fire was under control, but obviously it wasn't.
There was mass panic on board, and not enough life boats.
Very tragic.
sw
LOL, that looks like the old submarines they used to have at Disneyland!
mmm common theme is ignorant. Things that make you say hhmmmm
BUMP
Evening NV,
Ragin (non cajun) nagin would say, "allah has spoken."
nagin said the ship was not chocolate enough, so allah intervened and sank the ship-ferry.
Maybe we should cheer like the islamic facists, who cheered on 9/11.
As I See It,
