Why didn't Bush stop the storm in the Red Sea?

For that matter, why didn't he part the waters so the poor passengers could walk to safety?

I posted this on the other thread..They are saying the ship went down between midnight and 2 am. Most of the passengers should have been in their cabins and if it went down that quickly, they didn't stand a chance.

The hysteria is too awful to even contemplate.

I heard a tangential comment regarding Israel asking Egypt if it would accept the Israeli navy help in search and rescue. It was declined. Does the Israeli navy patrol these waters?

Watch. Within 48 hours we're going to be hearing about the rumors spreading through Arab cities that a U.S. submarine torpedoed it.

Na. More than likely FEMA didn't act soon enough and there will be an overhead shot of hundreds of nearby boats parked unused at a marina.

Would the Iranians or al Quaeda sink this ship in order to blame Israel or the USA?

I think your four reasons can explain why the ship sank so fast. People forget that with strong thunderstorms you can get high winds that can really whip up the waves in any large mass of water, and given the fact the ship looks top-heavy and probably was way overloaded I'm not surprised it went down so quickly.

From what I've read about Lloyd's of London, there are just too many stories even in modern times of commercial vessels literally sinking in storms without a distress signal callout. For example, the area called the Bermuda Triangle has a lot of notoriety for sudden ship and plane disappearances, but people forget that part of the world is notorious for sudden strong storms that can sink almost any small ship or bring down small airplanes, thanks to the topography and wind currents in the Triangle itself.

U.S. military offered air support for rescue efforts. Egypt declined the offer. British ship enroute is two days away from location.

I also read elsewhere that if even a relatively small amount of water gets into the ship, it can sort of "slosh" in rough conditions and destabilize the ship. Very sad, in any case; I don't think these folks ever had a chance.

Can high waves develop on the Red Sea?

There's a pretty long fetch from the south and SSW, but it's also plenty wide enough to develop a dangerous chop, yes.

I understand the ferry was not overloaded, in fact it was carrying way fewer passengers than capacity.

It also could carry up to ten automobiles.

It's landing destination was 120 miles away.

I know of a boat that left Hawaii with a crew of two and five passengers on a three-hour tour ... yes, a three-hour tour.

The weather started getting rough, the tiny ship was tossed. If not for the courage of her fearless crew, the boat would have been lost. Yes, the boat would have been lost.

But as it was, it took ground on the shore of some uncharted desert isle ...
