A cruise ship carrying 1300 passengers in the Red Sea has been reported disappeared from radar by Egyptian authorities. No other details....
the bottom one is the Al Salam 95
Go here...

click on each ship name and you will get a popup picture and the ships specs.
Weird. If you add them together, you get 11. If you go with 2/3=0.66666666666666666666666666666667, then 0.66666666666666666666666666666667/6=11. Spooky.
How did they ever name a ship "Baccaccio". That was a great movie..IIRC..Boccaccio 70? Anita Ekberg?
I got the impression...could be wron...that the ship "disappeared from radar", then some Egyptian air assets were sent to the scene, and they saw bodies and at least one life boat in the area where the ship should have been, but no sign of the ship. If there was any communication of distress, I heard nothing about it.
I wouldn't necessarily trust that website for photos since they appear to use the same photo for a number of vessels there.
If they pack these Haj ships like they pack the Hajjis around Jeddah aiport, it's no wonder that they continually experience tragedies such as this.
03/06=9
Thanks.
wron = wrong (Oops!)
No prob. I didn't even notice :) Beeb's had pretty constant coverage on. That's BBC America on my cable. I think that's news from the regular Beeb feed, though, not the channel for Yanks.
From the pic it looks top-heavy with a tall profile that would present a lot of sail area to a crosswind. If a big swell and a wind gust hooked up just right, it might roll over and find itself more stable upside down.
yes I noticed that now...
if you "picture" google each of the ships names you will get plenty of pictures of each of them. Salam 98 and Salam 95 look pretty close to each other, but the Salam 89 is not top heavy.
That's it for me today :-)
On Fox News the Camaratta dame said this, I swear, when they broke with the story, that she hoped the ship had enough life boats for all 1,300 passengers.
?#!?#!??##!!
keep up your compassion - and maybe try a little harder.
I am reading 1,300 on some reports and 1,400 on other reports, with only 12 rescued so far. Chances are the ferry/ship was overloaded.
Have a good day everyone.
If you recall "The Perfect Storm", there was some controversy about the Andrea Gail having been modified with a taller locer just aft of the pilot house, without the certifications of the builder. That was just a slight modification, and was considered a strong possibility in the fact that she didn't survive the storm. Any one of those ferries, if loaded with people on the upper decks, would have been equally at risk if broadsided by a tall enough wave.

Hamas must recognize Israel, Mubarak says
Reuters Friday, February 3, 2006; 2:19 AM
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said in an interview published on Friday that the militant group Hamas must recognize Israel if it wants to set up the next Palestinian government.
Mubarak urged Israel to be "patient" as Hamas decides how to proceed following its victory in last month's Palestinian parliamentary election. "I am sure they (Hamas leaders) have no intention of setting up a government of terror," Mubarak told the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
"If Hamas wants to set up a government, then Hamas must recognize Israel," Mubarak said. "But nothing will work if it does not recognize Israel."

I believe Egypt is the only Arab/Muslim country to make demands of Hamas as of yet.
are these two ships behind each other ?
Can high waves develop on the Red Sea?
< Gotta admit, I love going to the beach or out on the lake, but I'm not much of a mariner. I got nervous just being on the tour boats around Charleston (SC) harbor and heading to Fort Sumter. :) >
I was sweating with fear the whole time I was on one of those duck boats in Boston Horbor a few years back.
